Stanley Koehler

Stanley E. Koehler, age 87 of New Hampton, IA passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Good Shepherd Healthcare in Mason City, IA. Stanley Edward Koehler was born January 14, 1927 to Edward and Esther (Wendland) Koehler in Sumner, IA. He attended Sumner Public Schools and was a 1946 graduate of Sumner High School. Upon graduating he worked with his father on the family dairy farm before becoming a plumber with Heyer Plumbing in Waterloo. Stanley then moved to New Hampton where he became employed with Mick Gage Plumbing and Heating. In 1965, Stanley was united in marriage to Dorothy Pohlmann at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sumner. To this union two daughters were born, Sara and Irene. The couple later divorced. Then on November 26, 1977, Stanley was united in marriage to Betty Smith at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple made their home in New Hampton. Two years later Stanley retired from Mick Gage and he and Betty enjoyed fishing, and gardening. Stanley also spent his time selling Watkins products, tinkering in his workshop, as well as collecting, crushing and selling walnuts to the area's Amish families. He was also a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Stanley is survived by his daughters, Sara Koehler of Urbana, IA and Irene Schoeberl of Cedar Rapids, IA; his grandsons, Jacob and Jared; his brother Eugene Koehler of Waverly, IA; his nephew, Allen (Katie) Koehler of Mason City, IA and niece, Jane Gunn of Fairfax, IA; as well as great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Betty Koehler on February 29, 2012 and his sister-in-law, Arlene Koehler.
