Cremation Services for Veterans
Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory provides cremation services for veterans across Northeast Iowa, with full military funeral honors and help interring cremated remains at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, the Keokuk National Cemetery, or another national cemetery. Because we operate our own on-site crematory, a veteran in your care never leaves our facility. Choosing cremation does not reduce the honors a veteran has earned. A licensed funeral director is available 24 hours a day at (641) 394-4334.
Serving Veterans and Their Families Across Northeast Iowa
We serve veteran families throughout Chickasaw, Fayette, Howard, and Floyd counties, including New Hampton, Nashua, Waucoma, Fredericksburg, Elma, Charles City, Lawler, and Cresco, from our five Northeast Iowa locations.
How We Honor Veterans Who Choose Cremation
Veterans who choose cremation are entitled to the same military funeral honors as those who choose burial. Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory coordinates the burial flag, the playing of Taps, and the honors ceremony for cremated veterans.
Cremated remains of eligible veterans may be interred at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, the Keokuk National Cemetery, or another national cemetery, or placed in a columbarium. We help confirm eligibility and coordinate the interment.
Because Hugeback-Johnson owns and operates its own on-site crematory, a veteran in our care never leaves our facility, and our documented safeguards apply at every step, which families can review on our Our Cremation Safeguards page.

Military honors with cremation
A veteran who chooses cremation still receives full military funeral honors. We coordinate the burial flag, the playing of Taps, and the honors ceremony with the appropriate military branch, the same as for a casketed burial.
Interring cremated remains at a veterans cemetery
Cremated remains of eligible veterans may be interred in the ground or placed in a columbarium niche at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, the Keokuk National Cemetery, or another national cemetery, often at no cost. We coordinate the details for your family.
