Mary Jane Severson age 72 of New Hampton died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at her home. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton with Pastor Krista Strum of the World Of Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers, Minnesota officiating. Accompanying the congregation in song, were Dennis Strum, organist and Matt Strum, vocalist. Melissa Martin was the crossbearer. Honorary urn bearers were Connie Strum, Jan Reaman, Jane Johnson, Mary Ann Howe, Rosanna Timmerman, Nancy Josephson, Sue Weiglein, Marcia Duffy, Judy Morgan, Pat Ipsen, Mary Lou Poncelot and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Mary Jane was born July 31, 1939, in New Hampton, IA, the only daughter of James P. and Mabel (Peters) Wilson. She received her education in New Hampton and graduated in 1957 from the New Hampton High School. At her senior prom, she had her first date with a classmate who also became her future husband, Arlie Severson. The couple were married on September 7, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Mary Jane and Arlie initially lived in Charles City and in 1962 moved to Alamosa, CO, where Arlie went to college and Mary Jane owned and operated her own hair salon. In 1965 the family moved to Detroit and Mary Jane raised the children with Arlie getting his first teaching position. In 1968, they moved back to their hometown of New Hampton. While raising the children, Mary Jane worked part-time at Mode-O-Day and O’Connor’s Clothing stores and was an active Girl Scout leader. After raising her family, she went to work as Clerk of Magistrate Court and retired in 2000. Mary Jane loved crossword puzzles, embroidery, bird watching, and canning all the produce from the couple’s garden. Throughout the wrestling career of Arlie, she loved attending all the meets and activities relating to wrestling. She will be remembered by her family as being a woman who did it, ‘her way’. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Arlie; one daughter, Kim (Randy) Fike of Chicago; one son, Ed (Kate) Severson of Woodbury, MN; five grandchildren, Melissa (Tyler) Martin, Ryan Fike, Mara Severson, Jacob Severson, Lila Severson; one great-grandson, Landon Martin; one brother, James P. (Dorothy) Wilson of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents.

  21. Oh, Arlie, how we are going to miss her! Gooter and I can’t tell you how sad we are for you and your family. At the cabin, we have a saying on the wall that talks about not arriving in the grave safely and attractively but sliding in with things like chocolate and champagne and saying ‘Whoa what a ride!’…I will smile next time I read it and think of Mary Jane…it was her! And I want to be just like her! Enjoy your memories…they are priceless….

Wasn’t ashamed to show her ornery side when needed. Kindof reminds me of someone else. We had lots of good visits and I knew she would always make me feel good afterwards.
