Lee Clair Chester was born November 9, 1924, in Plainfield, IA, the only child of Ralph and Nila (Smith) Chester. He received his education in a rural country school and graduated from the Plainfield High School in 1943. Lee served his country during WWII as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corp. He was honorably discharged on December 13, 1946.
He was united in marriage to Lorraine Lynes on June 11, 1945, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. To this union five children were born. The couple farmed after Lee returned from WWII until 1969. He then turned a hobby into a business whereby he became a photographer known in the area as Foto-Farmer. Lee was one of the first in the area to be involved in running some of the early computers.

Lee was my dad’s Army Air Corp buddy. Since our dad died when Roger and I were 2 years old and 8 months old, respectively, Lee wrote multiple pages of tales from their times together so we could know our dad better. How incredibly thoughtful! Lee also took our family’s pictures for years. We have fond memories of time spent with Lee and Lorraine and their family. God be with you all and give you His peace!
We were classmates with the Chester kids at Plainfield and send our love and support to your families at this time. Cherish your memories. God Bless.
I was so sorry to hear about Lee. Seems like he lived a full life. And I am sure your family has many wonderful memories of him. At times like this the Bible comforts me so much. John 11:11-44 shows when Jesus resurrected Lazarus. Jesus said that Lazarus was just sleeping and then he resurrected him. He was showing what he would do on a grand scale soon. Jesus said in John 5:28&29 there would come a time when those in the memorial tombs would hear his voice and come out. This would also be at a time when Revelation 21:3&4 says there will be no more tears, pain or death. This would all happen when God’s Kingdom comes, the same kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for in the Lord’s Prayer. What a wonderful prospect for Lee and all those in the memorial tombs now. We express our deepest sympathy. We hope you find comfort in this time of loss.
We are so sorry to hear of you loss. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Our most sincere prayers and sympathies. As you celebrate your dad’s life, may you be blessed with many joyful memories.
My sincere sympathy to the Chester family. I was an elementary student at Plainfield when a small group of us went to Lee’s business 4 or 5 times so he could teach us about photography. He knew a lot! We constructed cameras out of boxes and he taught us all about the images. We developed some black/white film, and he talked a lot about his love for photography. He was very patient and I recall had a good sense of humor. I remember being very grateful that he took that time to spend with us. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Our deepest sympathy to your family.
Such sad news! None of us know when God will call us home. Our thoughts & prayers are with you & your family in this difficult time.
Cousins are forever as well as friends of a lifetime. Dear Sweet Lee, this Rotten Kid is going to really miss you.
You are in my thoughts and prayers today.May the God of all comfort keep you in the palm of his hand.
Our sincere sympathy to the Chester family~
