Lavonne Troyna

Lavonne Troyna, age 75, of New Hampton, IA died on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 of cancer at her home surrounded by her family.
Lavonne May Hahn was born on May 24, 1934 in Chickasaw County to Emil and Selma (Schneider) Hahn, the third of four children. She was united in marriage to David D. Troyna on December 12, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Lavonne spent most of her life in Waterloo and New Hampton. She worked as a welder at Hinson Manufacturing in Cedar Falls, at a grocery store in Waterloo, as well as Bennett Pharmacy and Liddles Super Value in New Hampton. Lavonne also baked wedding cakes and made wedding apparel. She served as commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources under Governor Terry Branstad, as well as serving on the DNR Board for nine years until 1999. Lavonne was also the past president of Womens Duck Unlimited of Chickasaw County. After 32 years of farming, Lavonne and David retired in 1996.
Lavonne enjoyed hunting, fishing (especially trout fishing and showing her children how to catch them), as well as playing cards, and spending time with her family.
Lavonne is survived by her mother Selma Hahn of New Hampton, her husband David of New Hampton, eight children, Rick (Cindy) Troyna of Raymond, IA, Kathy (Riley) Uglum of New Hampton, Peggy (Bob) Cline of Nashua, IA, Donna Troyna of Danville, CA, Daniel (Barb) Troyna of Allison, IA, Dennis Troyna of New Hampton, Barb (Dana) Boomgarden of Anoka, MN and Karen (Tim) Rogers of Meridian, ID; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two brothers Lloyd (Mary) Hahn of Fairbank, IA, and Jerry (Bonnie) Hahn of Cedar Falls, IA.
She is preceded in death by her father Emil Hahn, one brother Edwin Hahn, who was killed in Korea, and one grandchild Kelly Foster.
Memorials:
Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice of New Hampton.
Cemetery:
Burial will be at New Hampton Cemetery in New Hampton with her grandchildren, Cory Troyna, Ryan Troyna, Jason Troyna, Lindsey Troyna, Tiffany Troyna, Jenny Troyna, Brian Uglum, Stephanie Coyle, Derek Rogers, Amanda Olmstead , and John Kleinschmidt serving as casket bearers.
Visitation:
Visitation will be on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 4-8pm at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Service:
Funeral Service will be 10:30 am on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, IA with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating.

My deepest sympathies go out to the entire Troyna family. My fondest memory of Lavonne was of her speeding out on her gator to rescue Donna, Dave and I after we locked the keys in the truck while out touring the hunting grounds on the property in New Hampton. She had the biggest grin on her face and relished taking us the long way back to the house on that gator all the while regaling us with stories! Rest peacefully dear Lavonne you will be missed.
