Kathleen Marie Roethler was born on March 29, 1954, in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of LaVern and Geraldine (Holschlag) Brummond. A lifelong local, she attended St. Joseph’s Grade School before graduating from New Hampton High School in 1972.

During her senior year, at a high school dance, she met Jack Roethler—and the two remained inseparable. Following graduation, Kathy enrolled at Pitzie’s School of Cosmetology in Waterloo and went on to build a successful career as a professional hairdresser. She served clients for decades at several New Hampton salons—including Headmasters, Dolly’s, and Leona’s—and also worked in the town’s two nursing homes, bringing comfort and confidence to countless residents.

After Jack returned from service in the U.S. Army, the couple was married on July 13, 1974, at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton. Together they raised their two children.

Kathy’s passions extended far beyond her vocation. She and Jack were avid travelers with photo albums filled from adventures all over the world. She loved sewing and was the driving spirit behind the longtime Brummond family reunion at Cedar Lake near Faribault, Minnesota—an occasion she cherished for gathering her extended family.

A devout woman of faith, Kathy prioritized Catholic education for her children at St. Joseph’s School and was a regular at Holy Family Parish’s 4:00 p.m. Saturday Mass.

Kathy is survived by her beloved husband, Jack Roethler; daughter, Carrie (Bryan Hoyme) Geerts; son, Brian (Maria) Roethler all of  of New Hampton; four granddaughters, Jersey Roethler, Madison Roethler, Chloe Geerts, and Claire Geerts. She is also survived by her mother Geraldine Brummond of New Hampton; sisters Becky (Rich) Schoenfeld of New Hampton, Cindy Kellogg of Ionia; brothers, Randy Brummond and Dan (Sandy) Brummond all of New Hampton; sisters‑in‑law, Susan King and Lori (Al) Hillis all of Charles City; brother‑in‑law, David Roethler.

She was preceded in death by her father, LaVern Brummond (July 20, 1972); her brother, Dick Brummond (October 14, 2010); and her step‑father Robert Clasen.
