Jerald Lee “Jerry” Nott was born November 29, 1947, in Charles City, IA the son of Warren and Evelyn (Montgomery) Nott. Jerry was a proud graduate of Charles City High School, class of 1967. His dedication to his country was evident when he joined the United States Army, serving with commitment and honor from February 12, 1968, until his honorable discharge on February 11, 1971.
Upon returning to civilian life, Jerald ventured to Tucson, Arizona, where he demonstrated his strong work ethic in a local copper mine. He met his first wife, Alice Gallego and their union was blessed with three children, and though their paths later diverged, the couple cherished the family they had created. In 2002, Jerald’s journey brought him back to his roots in Iowa. It was there that he found love once again with Marlene Bergmann Brunner. The couple united in marriage on September 23, 2006, at the Western Douglas Church in rural Plainfield, Iowa, forging a bond of love and companionship.
Throughout his life, Jerald was a dedicated employee, known for his reliability and expertise. He spent several years maintaining the operations at Walmart stores in Mason City and Waverly, where his presence was a constant assurance. Even after retirement, he continued to lend his skills part-time at the Casey’s store in Nashua, always ready to greet customers with a smile.
Jerald’s interests were as rich and varied as his life experiences. He was an active member of the train club in Charles City, where he could indulge in his lifelong passion for trains. His love for the Iowa Hawkeyes was unrivaled, never missing a football game and always ready to cheer on his team. In addition, Jerald found great joy in the simple pleasures of playing cards, with Rummy being his game of choice. His laughter and competitive spirit made every game memorable for those who played alongside him.
