Janice Kay Chandler age 81 of Nashua, IA died Monday, April 27, 2015, at her home.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel in Nashua with Rev. Bill Nielsen presiding.
Friends may greet the family 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015, at the Funeral Home.
Janice Kay Chandler was born April 25, 1934, in rural Floyd County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Dorothy (Immel) Birkholz. She attended school in Charles City, Iowa. During this time, she met Robert Chandler. The couple was married on April 26, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union two sons were born. Janice and Bob moved to a farm Northeast of Nashua. Janice worked hard on the farm helping bale hay, with crop production, milking cows, and anything else on the farm that needed to be done.
Janice had a passion for horses and loved to ride and take care of her horses. She enjoyed leading many parades in the surrounding area with her horse ceremoniously carrying the American Flag. Janice and Bob were avid fans of the Chuck wagon Races. They traveled to as many of the Iowa/Minnesota Chuck wagon Association events as possible. Janice loved raccoons and every year would raise local orphan baby raccoon’s throughout the summer months until they were old enough to be set free in the fall. Janice was a member of the Nashua Trail Riders Club.
Janice is survived by two sons, Tim (Janet) Chandler of Ardmore, OK, Chris Chandler of Nashua; two grandchildren, Ellie (Paul) Chandler of Dallas, TX, Todd (Danielle) Davidson of Gardena, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Jerold in infancy.

Sympathy and prayers to you, Chris & Tim and family, in the loss of your mother Janice. I remember her well from Nashua trail rides and the Nashua Fair. She always rode her palomino carrying the flag, always enjoyed life to the fullest. Loved it when I would run into her in later years as she never forgot someone she met. Chris, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family today. She’s with your Dad now, but you are left with all those good times & wonderful memories.
My wife and I lived right across the road from the Chandlers and they were such sweet people.Tim lived with us for a while and Chris was also a good friend.Jan was always so good with all her animals and she especially loved her horse,Sugar.I’m sure she’s riding the trails again.

Chris & Tim–So sorry to hear about Jan. My parents (Doyle & Lou Johnson) and your mom & dad were such good friends and neighbors when we were growing up together. Boy the stories we could tell about all the trail rides. Horses, horses, horses that is my memory of your mom! I will miss visiting with her. Sending prayers for you and your family.
Condolences to Chris, who was my son Brett’s best friend for during years at Nashua. Our family bought milk from Jan & Bob. We enjoyed watching Jan ride her beloved horse. They were such good neighbors!
Janis was a wonderful lady and I am glad I was able to meet her through the Perry Family, she always had a smile on her face. Sympathies to you all
So Sorry for your Loss Tim and Chris. We will miss her a dearly. I Spent a lot of time on horseback with her. We rode in a lot of Parades together. She Loved to carry the US Flag. And Her Palomino, Sugar was a dream come true for her. She loved her Pony’s and Coon. I loved spending time with her. She would come in and we would visit for hours.
My thoughts and prayers to chris. Always loved riding houses or bikes and stopping by jans house to talk. She always had great stories and she loved her animals.
