James F. Mangan, 85 of Sumner passed away Tuesday morning, March 24, 2009 at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner. A Masonic services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 in the Chapel at Hillcrest Home in Sumner by Hebron Lodge # 374 with P. Frank Odekirk. A prayer service will follow with Fr. James Brockman officiating. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton, Iowa. The family will greet friends at the Hillcrest Home Chapel from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. James Francis Mangan was born January 9, 1924, at New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Vincent J. and Violette (Ralph) Mangan. He attended New Hampton High School until joining the U.S. Navy during W.W. II following his discharge he return to New Hampton and earn his diploma from N.H.S. James lived in several communities before marrying Dorothy L. Jorgensen at the Lutheran Church in Sumner in 1987. They have lived in Sumner all their married life. Jim worked for Riley’s in New Hampton for a time in repairs and sales. He then started working as a investment broker, real estate and insurance agent with State Bond and Mortgage and Columbia Securities. Jim retired in 1996. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Sumner, Masonic Lodge and Rotary. Jim enjoyed cat fishing, playing cards and visiting with people. He was a gyro-tech (learned while in service), flowers and trees, travel and hunting for gold in Arizona. Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Sumner; two sons, and Michael Mangan of Williford, AK and Joseph Mangan of Wylie, TX; two daughters, Jill Turner of Kansas City, MO and Nancy Diggins of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Bob Mangan of Elkader; one sister, Terri Nelson of Carnigie, PA; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald J. Mangan; one sister, Mary Cericola.
