Helen A. Barlow, 83, of Nashua passed away Friday morning, October 30, 2009 at North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Nashua with Pastor Okitakoyi Lundula officiating. Nelda Shepard will be the organist with special music provided by Tracy McGregor. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Nashua with Scott McGregor, Clark McGregor, Scott Lodge, Wes Poley, Randy Holthaus and Donald George serving as pallbearers. Friends may call 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service Monday at the United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to the family. Helen is survived by her husband, Harold of Nashua; one son, Garry (Debra) Barlow of Nashua; one daughter, Linda (Wayne) Gabrielson of Longmont, CO; two grandchildren, Amber Barlow and Adam (Brittany) Barlow; one great-grandson, Lane Barlow; one brother, Gene (Lorraine) Bennor of Nashua; one sister-in-law, Maxine Bennor of Nashua. Helen was preceded in death by a son, Richard; her parents; and two brothers, Max and Dale Bennor. Helen (Bennor) Barlow was born March 21, 1926 on the family farm in Chickasaw County, rural Ionia, Iowa, the daughter of Belton and Bessie (Zuck) Bennor. She attended rural school in the Republic area. Helen was united in marriage to Harold Barlow on December 3, 1944 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They moved to Texas while Harold finished his military commitment. They then moved back to Iowa and in 1951 moved to their farm north of Nashua. To this union three children were born. They lived on the farm until July 1, 2005 when they moved to Cedar Vale Assisted Living in Nashua. Due to failing health Helen became a resident at Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. She was a member of Nashua Methodist Church, active in 4-H and Big Four Fair. Helen enjoyed gardening and cooking but loved being a farmwife, mother, and grandmother.

  1. Dear Debbie and Gary, We were sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I have known her for as long as I can remember and such a nice, sweet lady!! I remember the gatherings at the Hogan school and being my folks neighbors they got together for work and visiting! She and I always visited about all the work to do once spring arrived!!!
