Frances M. “Fran” Shannon, age 82 of New Hampton, Iowa died Thursday, January 07, 2010, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010, at Holy Family Parish – St. Joseph Center in New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed by her four children Lector for the service will be Tara Patrie. Organist will be Ann Bennett with Shawnessey & Stephaine Lau, cantors, accompanying the Holy Family Resurrection Choir. The offertory gifts will be presented by Caleb Ulrichs, Keegan Ulrichs, Rylie Patrie, Tori Ulrichs, and Jack Northrup.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Hampton with Nathan Northrup, Ryan Shannon, Jon Shannon, Jeff Ulrichs, Josh Patrie, Joe Baron, Kirk Grandstrand, and Sam Boos serving as pallbearers. Grant Stroughton will be an honorary pallbearer.
Friends may call 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 5:30 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Frances M. “Fran” Shannon was born in Elma, IA, on June 25, 1927, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Roche) Riley. She attended Immaculate Conception Academy in Elma graduating in 1945. Fran was united in marriage to Paul Shannon on November 10, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in St. Cecelia, IA. The couple lived in New Hampton and to this union four children were born. Fran was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the former Latours Apparel in New Hampton, and the Canteen Services at Sara Lee for 18 years. Paul died on May 17, 2001 at the age of 77.
Fran enjoyed baking for her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with her girlfriends in the Birthday Club. She was a member of Holy Family Rosary Society and Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include three sons, Terry (Vonnie) Shannon of New Hampton, Tom (Cindy) Shannon of Rochester, MN, and Steve (Jean) Shannon of Charles City; one daughter, Maureen (Brad) Northrup of Hastings, MN; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Lee (Veronica) Riley of Charles City, and one brother-in-law, Bob Boos of New Hampton; two sister-in-laws Jean Shannon of New Hampton and Marge (Gerald) Gansen of Elma.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul, three brothers, Joe Riley, Gerald Riley and Paul Riley; four sisters, Bernice Showalter, Marion Ales, Grace Riley, and Helen Riley.
Steve, Jean and all Fran’s family. She was always fun to talk to and be around. You would not have known how old she was because she was young at heart. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.
We visited Fran last September, and enjoyed our visit with her. We joked about her and Gerald being cheerleaders,you may have seen the picture of them I sent. Fran often called at Christmas time, when we caught up on old times. You have our condolences, she will be missed.Maureen- do you still have my e-mail address? Love, Marge

How very sad to hear of Fran’s passing. She was such a joy to be around. When I would come to visit my cousin, Edna Adams, Fran was always part of my visit. Her passing leaves quite a void in everyone’s life.

I am saddened to hear of Aunt Fran’s passing. I have fond memories of her from when we were young and I used to stay overnight! My prayers are with you all.

So very sorry to hear about Miss Fran. We are so glad that we were able to chat with her a bit a few weeks ago at the care center. Such a sweet, sweet spirit!
