Edward Heying

January 24, 1943 ~ December 22, 2023
Edward Joseph Heying, 80, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023, in Chandler, Arizona. Born January 24, 1943, of Leo and Velda Heying, Ed was the fourth child of seven. He graduated from Saint William’s High School in Alta Vista, Iowa, and joined the United States Air Force to serve our country. Later he earned an Associate of Arts degree from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a Bachelor of Business Administration with a minor in Economics from Mount Mercy College, also in Cedar Rapids, and an MBA from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
As a child and young adult, Ed spent his life on the family farm in Iowa. After graduating from high school and serving in the Air Force, he returned home to help the family and worked on the farm with his dad for a year. Ed began his career working in Cedar Rapids for Allis Chalmers as a machinist. He then moved to Harnischfeger Corporation, a mobile crane manufacturer, where he reached the level of third shift plant superintendent. After 17 years, he left to take on various manufacturing management roles in companies across the Midwest. Ed and Judy moved to Chandler in 2002 to escape the cold Midwest winters and he retired in 2008.
In retirement, Ed kept busy helping family and neighbors with home maintenance and improvement projects. He also returned to his love of farming and was known to share vegetables from his extensive garden with family, friends, neighbors, and local church and community food programs. His most recent activity was to drive around local neighborhoods and find trees with unpicked/excess fruit. He would befriend the owners and convince them to collect the fruit and have it ready for him to pick up and deliver to local food pantries. If the owners could not pick the fruit, he would do it for them and at times he also recruited his granddaughters to help, passing on to them the importance of self-giving.
He is preceded in death by his wife Judy, parents Leo & Velda, and brothers John and Bob, and is survived by his children; son Pete with grandson Joey, son Charles and his wife Shannon with granddaughters, Claira and Charlize, son Michael and his partner Karen Keating, daughter Michelle Wilver and her husband Pete; his brothers; Leon and his wife Beverly, and Tom; and his sisters; Lois and her husband Don Vorwald, and Mary Elliot; and sisters-in-law; Sondra and Karen.
Ed was proud to serve his country – he and Judy flew their flag 24x7 – and he believed strongly in community service and supporting his fellow veterans and their families. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Edward Heying to the Third Option Foundation. Instructions can be found at: https://www.thirdoptionfoundation.org/support

Extending my most sincere sympathy to the Heying family.
So sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. And I wasn’t aware that Judy passed before him. They stayed with us in Mesa when they were planning to move to AZ.
We shared many good times.
Sending prayers to all the family.

Love You Uncle Ed,please give everyone up there a big hug We will miss you !!
We will all miss Ed and his smile and his holy water he let us borrow every day at the cemetary! He faithfully visited Judy daily! We got to know him because ny parents went to Heaven and we visit them every day also!
They met in their teens also and had a similar story! Hard workers and faith and family come first! He talked highly of his family and grandkids and loved his friends at St. Mary’s!
He always had a smile and a good story, no matter how much pain he was in. My parents (Jim and Joan Singleton) and Ed and Judy are definitely warriors!
We heard a lot about their wonderful housekeeper/friend who was always there for them. Ed would joke that after his strokes they were, “Going to test him and look for a brain!”
Thank you for having us at his wonderful service and Military Honors. Beautiful!
We know they are in Heaven together and in paradise with Jesus!
Blessings, Joyce Singleton-Clinton
I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your site. It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more enjoyable for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a developer to create your theme? Excellent work!
