Dolora Sabelka

Dolora Johanna Sabelka, age 80, of Lawler, Iowa died Thursday, November 19th 2009 after a short battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 on Monday, November 23, 2009, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler with Rev. David Beckman celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by her children. Serving as lector will be Michael Knudson. Ruth McKone will be the organist accompanying Lori Galligan and Rich Winter, niece & nephew of Dolora. Presenting the offertory gifts will be grandchildren, Ryan and Haley Yordanoff.
Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery – Reilly Ridge, rural Lawler with Carl Knudson, Keith Clawson, Andy Pomroy, Chris Douglas, Kyle Renn, Barry Reicks, and Nick Yordanoff serving as pallbearers.
Friends may call 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Carmel Church in Lawler where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 6 p.m. scripture service. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at the church on Monday.
Dolora Johanna Hackman was born May 16, 1929, on the family farm north of St. Lucas, IA, the youngest child of Henry and Clara (Rausch) Hackman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. She graduated from St. Luke’s Catholic School upon completion of 8th grade in 1943. Dolora remained at home helping on the family farm until her marriage.
On October 8, 1953 she was united in marriage to Julian Sabelka at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, St. Lucas by Msgr. Schuh. To this union, seven children were born. Dolora dedicated her life to being a wife and homemaker. The couple farmed north of Lawler and just moved into Lawler on Nov. 29, 2008. A highlight of this past year in town for Dolora was celebrating her 80th birthday with a party at her new home.
Dolora was a member of Sacred Heart – Reilly Ridge Church and upon its closing transferred her membership to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. She was a member of the OLMC parish society. Dolora enjoyed cooking, gardening, and sewing. She and Julian enjoyed dancing together. Dolora’s family brought her great joy.
Dolora is survived by her husband of 56 years, Julian; two sons, Conrad Sabelka of New Hampton, and Ralph Sabelka of Apple Valley MN; five daughters, Clarene (Antonio) Sierra of Savage MN, Madonna (Michael) Knudson, Blair NE, Doris Sabelka (Bruce Clawson), Rock Springs WI, Verna (Jack) Orvis, Lawler, Ellen (Nick) Yordanoff, Pleasant Hill IA; ten grandchildren Ashley Sierra (Andy Pomroy), Carl Knudson (Angie Tomes), Laura Knudson (Chris Douglas), Sarah (Kyle) Renn, Amanda Orvis (Barry Reicks), Rachel Orvis, Anna and Keith Clawson, Ryan and Haley Yordanoff; two step-great-grandchildren, Jack Renn and Jaila Reicks; a brother, Hugo Hackman of Ft. Atkinson, two sisters, Hilaria Kipp, of Festina, and Leona Winter, of St. Lucas; brother-in-law Jack (Shirley) Sabelka, of Little Turkey, and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hackman, of Decorah.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Carl and Adolph Hackman and sisters Hilda Brandsmeier and Rose Hackman, sisters-in-law, Ivanelle Crowe, Mildred Hackman; brothers-in-law Carl Brandsmeier, Edwin Kipp, Clarence Winter, and George Hackman.
