Alan Fehr

Alan M. Fehr, age 56, of rural Elma, IA died on Monday, February 22, 2010 at his home afterfighting cancer since November.
Alan Matthew Fehr was born on June 16, 1953 to Clarence Pete and Elsie (Wieck) Fehr in Waterloo, IA. Alan was raised in Dysart, IA where he graduated from Dysart-Geneseo High School in 1971. Alan immediately enlisted in the US Air force and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1974. Alan was married to Janice (Sell) Vesely and the couple was later divorced. He was employed by John Deere in Waterloo. Alan was laid off for a period of time and drove truck over the road for Elliott Brothers Trucking in Dysart. Alan was called back to John Deere where he worked as a Machinist and Union Committeeman until he retired on July 31, 2009 after 31 years of service. He was united in marriage to Suzan Gansen on November 26, 1993 at Raleigh Hills Golf Course near Ionia, IA. The couple made their home near Lourdes.
Alan enjoyed spending time with family and friends, his pets, golfing, fishing, camping, Hawkeye Football, motorcycling, traveling and trail riding by horseback. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, he was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Maple Heights Country Club, John Deere Fire Brigade, Elma American Legion John Frahm Post #597, Dysart Jaycees, UAW Local #838, County Chairman of Pony Express of Iowa (Easter Seals) for eight years.
He is survived by his wife Suzan of Elma, IA; four children Chad (Candie) Fehr of Coatesville, IN, Wendy (Greg) Fehr-Deitrick of Traer, IA, Bradley (Lacey) Gansen of Mason City, IA, Melissa (Cody) Stuart of Wykoff, MN; six grandchildren Callie and Cole Fehr, Sydney and Sable Fehr, Collin Stuart and Olivia Gansen; two brothers Peter (Delores) Fehr of McIntyre, IA and Mark (Kathy) Fehr of Clutier, IA; one sister Laura (Don) McCool of Eldorado Springs, MO; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
Cemetery:
Burial will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery in Lourdes with Tom Bilidt, Robert Carroll, Kenneth Gansen,Christopher Fehr, Daniel Fehr and Erc Karr as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Bruce Wilharm, Dean Payne, Steve Darrah and Larry Lorenz. Military rites will be provided by Elma American Legion John Frahm Post # 597.
Visitation:
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from 4-8pm at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma, IA. Visitation will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Service:
Mass of Christian Burialwill be at10:30 am on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, IA with Father Ray Atwood as celebrant.
Chad, Wendy and families – I am so sorry to hear of your dads passing. I didnt know of his cancer until I visited with him at Wendy and Gregs wedding reception in Traer Saturday night. We had good times when you two were younger and lived across the street from my family in Dysart. You have my deepest sympathy.
My heart goes out to Als family~ The first time I met Al, Sue had given me the honor of dancing with him at the Blue Bird. What a sweet, kind man! I am happy I was able to visit with Al at the Deutsch grad. party after not seeing him for years. Rest in peace Al~you are proof there are angels among us.

The Fehr family siblings all rode Mr. Petersons school bus SW of Dysart with my brothers I. Later, our paths crossed at Deere. My God hold you in his arms and give you the strength to endure the coming days.

My deepest sympathy go out to the entire Fehr family. It has been many years since Ive seen Alan. I have great memories of hanging out with Wendy in high school and Al welcoming me into his home. He was a wonderful and caring person that I am grateful to have known. I wish the family the best during this difficult time.

Wendy Chad, So sorry we could not make the wedding reception. When we heard Al passed away we were so upset that we did not get to see him. Bruce always talked so highly of Al, even though they didnt see each other often. He will always be remembered as a good man with a loving laugh and heart.
