Winifred Minerva Prouty was born June 29, 1917, the daughter of Frederick Winfred and Ellen Mae (Miner) Fee. Frederick was a schoolteacher and superintendent so the family moved frequently and lived all over the Midwest. Winnie graduated from Fairburn High School in South Dakota. On March 2, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Winnie was united in marriage to Francis Prouty. To this union, five children were born. The couple farmed and raised their children northwest of Nashua.
Winnie had a very bright and vibrant personality. She was a free thinker, and enjoyed nature and traveling. She was a believer in environmentalism and preservation. She loved big band and concert music, was an avid reader, and bright and happy colors. Her nickname “Sunshine” described her personality well. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge.
Survivors include five children; Pat (Randy) Bergmann of Nashua, Glen (Mary) Prouty of Charles City, IA, Jim Prouty of Ames, IA, Rick (Donna) Prouty of Ankeny, IA, Bob Prouty of Pembroke Pines, FL; a brother, Wayne (Lorraine) Fee of Idaho; five grandchildren, Carole Kern, Heather (Paul Fitz) Prouty, Rich Prouty, Melanie (Scott) Holt, and Jenny Prouty.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Forrest Fee, Kenneth Fee; and two sisters, Vada Maloy, and Lena Campbell.
My heart goes out to all of Winny’s family. I have so many fond memories of Winny from visits she made and in the opportunity of staying with the Prouty family as a teenager one blissful summer. Winny was always so kind and thoughtful. I enjoyed watching her prepare interesting and yummy meals. Always pleasant, down-to-earth, practical, finding pleasure in small things, witty, and very resourceful. She looks so beautiful in this picture. Thank you for this opportunity to share. With love to you all, Chris
A rolling stone is worth two in the bush, thanks to this artlice.
I was so sorry to hear about Winifred. Seems like she lived a full life. And I am sure your family has many wonderful memories of her. At times like this the Bible comforts me so much. Jesus said in John 5:28&29 there would come a time when those in the memorial tombs would hear his voice and come out. This would also be at a time when Revelation 21:3&4 says there will be no more tears, pain or death. This would all happen when God’s Kingdom comes, the same kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for in the Lord’s Prayer. What a wonderful prospect for Winifred and all those in the memorial tombs now. We express our deepest sympathy. We hope you find comfort in this time of loss.
We give the Winnie Prouty ‘Family’ our sincere condolences in this time of grief.
