William "Bill" J. Ameling age 76 of Fredericksburg, Iowa died Monday, May 21, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg with Rev. Ronnie Koch officiating. Janiece Kramer will be the organist.
Military Interment rites will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with the Fredericksburg AMVETS #90. Pallbearers will be Scott Ameling, Brandon Ohm, Joey Willitts, Brooke O'Brien, Jackie Sassmann, Jenna Crooks, and Connor Noehl serving as pallbearers with the Fredericksburg AMVETS providing military rites.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at the Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
William "Bill" John Ameling was born July 13, 1941, in rural Waucoma, IA, the son of Joseph and Bernice (Ehlert) Ameling. Bill graduated from Waucoma High School in 1958. On November 7, 1961 Bill enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. He served our country for six years before he was honorably discharged on November 6, 1967.
Bill was married to Shelia Burke, and to this union 7 children were born. The couple later divorced. For the majority of his life Bill farmed in Chickasaw county, and for the last 24 years of employment he worked for Lynch Livestock in Waucoma until his retirement. Bill was united in marriage to Carol Milbrandt on February 16, 1990, at St. John's Stapleton Church in rural Waucoma.
Bill was a lifetime fan of the Chicago Cubs and enjoyed watching games on TV. He enjoyed gardening, feeding birds and squirrels, beautifying his lawn and flower beds. Family time fishing, camping and boating. Bill liked to drive around the countryside and check the crops, and would enjoy an occasional ride around town on his Ford tractor. Bill loved spending quality time with his family.
Bill is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carol Ameling; children, Pam (Chad) Rausch, Paula (Gregg) Sassmann, Steve (Tammi) Ameling, Annette (Joe Breitbach) Ameling, Sonya (Jeremie Ensign) Crooks, Joanne (Jim) McAvoy, Sara (Amy Foley) Noehl, Wynn Hartson; 30 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; along with many extended family
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bernice Ameling; sons-in-law, Durrell Crooks, Robert Ohm.
