Wilbert R. Remley, 91, of Nashua passed away Wednesday morning, September 30, 2009 at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services will be 10:30 Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua with Pastor Thomas Hagen officiating.
Burial will be in the Horton Cemetery rural Waverly, Iowa with Edwin Thompson, Darrell Alen, Rueben Krebs, Keith Jones, Dan Dietz and Burton Dietz serving as pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Symonds, Lyle Usher, Nelson Brahn, Charlie Jones and Stanley Goddard.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and continue Monday for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Wilbert R. Remley was born October 18, 1917, in rural Bremer County, Iowa the son of W.Z (Zell) Remley and Jessie (Mishler) Remley. He attended rural country schools in Bremer County and graduated from Waverly High School in 1935.
He was united in marriage to Irene F. Perske at the St. John’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Charles City on November 26, 1939. To this union two daughters were born. They farmed north of Nashua until 1957 when they moved to their farm near the Little Brown Church. Wilbert and Irene moved to their present home on Hwy 346 in 1984. Wilbert loved farming. His labor of love lasted over 60 years. He also enjoyed playing “500” and spending time with his family.
Wilbert is survived by his two daughters, Sandra Niemeyer of Greer, SC and Marvelyn (Carl) Meyer of Nashua; two granddaughters, Rebecca (Keith) Jones and Rachel Herold; and two brothers, Erwin and Herbert Remley both of Nashua.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene on December 22, 2008; his parents; a sister, Elva Remley; and a great-grandson, Jacob Swanson.
