Wendell Duryee

Wendell Duryee, age 89, of Forest City, Iowa, and formerly of New Hampton, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Forest City.
Wendell Elmore Duryee was born on July 13, 1918 to Harry and Winifred (Frost) Duryee in McIntire, Iowa. He attended McIntire Public School. Wendell farmed with his father and then entered the US Army serving his country during World War II. After his honorable discharge in 1945 he resided in Charles City where he became a fireman for the Charles City Fire Department. Wendell became the assistant fire chief and after 22 years he retired in 1979.
Wendell was united in marriage to Agnes Peacock on Sept. 28, 1942 in San Francisco, CA. The couple lived in Charles City and were married for 34 years. In 1976 Wendell was united in marriage to Catherine Schwickerath at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. In 1994 Wendell and Catherine moved to New Hampton. He enjoyed various crafts, square dancing, reading, traveling and a life long love of country music.
Wendell is survived by daughter Linda Nelson of Forest City and son Dennis Duryee of Waterloo, IA; stepchildren Jeanne (Leon) Miller of Ionia, Ken (Marilyn) Schwickerath of Charles City, Dan (Herminia) Schwickerath of Aplington, IA, Andy (Mary Ann) Schwickerath of St. Marys, GA, Steve (Sandy) Schwickerath of Munds Park, AZ, Tom (Brenda) Schwickerath of St. Louis, MO, Mary (Mark) McDermott of Swisher, IA, Keith (Penny) Schwickerath of Baltimore, OH, Roy (Deb) Schwickerath of Charles City, IA, Teresa (Shayne) Schwickerath of Cottonwood, AZ, Alan (Dana) Schwickerath of Charles City, IA; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Agnes (Peacock) Duryee who died in 2002, second wife Catherine (Schwickerath) Duryee who died in 2005; brothers Kenneth, Gernard, and Dale; sisters Lois Decker and Norma Cable; stepson Charles Schwickerath and grandson Mark Duryee.

Burial will be in Wayne Cemetery at McIntire, IA.
Service:
Memorial Services will be 11:00am on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Holy Family Parish, St. Josephs Center in New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt officiating. The public will be able to greet the family at St. Josephs Gathering Center from 10:00am to the time of the service.
