Wanda Marie Farrell Piper age 92 of Waucoma died peacefully on Sunday, August 14, 2016, at her home and surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waucoma with Rev. Kyle Digmann presiding. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waucoma. Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at the church. Funeral arrangements are with the Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Waucoma. Wanda Marie Farrell Piper was born January 18, 1924, in rural Black Hawk County, IA, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Griffin) Weber. She was a graduate of Waterloo West High School. On June 20, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, she married Lyle Farrell. To this union six children were born. The couple lived in Waucoma where they raised their family. They loved dancing together especially to Lawrence Welk when he was in the area. Her husband Lyle died in 1965. Wanda initially worked as a postal clerk in 1954 in Waucoma and then as Postmaster in the St. Lucas Post Office until retiring in April of 1988. Wanda loved the outdoors and enjoyed working in her yard. She enjoyed mowing, tending to her gardens, feeding the birds, caring for her cats, traveling but above all she enjoyed having her family together no matter where it was. Survivors include three sons, Michael Farrell of Waucoma, Thomas (Susan) Farrell of Hawkeye, James (Renae) Farrell of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Diane (Daryl) Franzen of Hastings, MN, Patty (Russ) Voss of Waucoma; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Joseph Farrell in infancy; two brothers, Francis Weber and Joseph Weber; one sister, Kathleen Garcia; a daughter-in-law, Linda Farrell and a grandson, Joseph Farrell.

  1. My dear family. Sorry about your loss. When the enemy death strikes, the sting of death can be very painful, and can leave us with emotions that are hard to understand. Know that when you pour out your heart to God (Psalms 83:18) in prayer, He will give you His Peace that surpasses all understanding to guard your thinking and your heart.   2. I enjoyed Wanda for all the yrs. I knew her. Did her hair many yrs. Loved her peppy personaity. After I quit doing her hair,we still talked periodically. Will totally miss her. Eileen Huber.

  3. Mike, Tom and Patty: All of us in the Schrier family send along our condolences as well. Our Grandma Katy Griffin Schrier was sister to Wanda’s mother Bessie Griffin Weber.   5. There are so many memories and stories and would like to share about the time the Franzen family had a big gathering, but there was no room for us to stay. Wanda was so gracious and insisted we stay at her house. She was so excited to make a big breakfast and show us her garden, birds and pesky squirrels. She always enjoyed talking to Harry and tried to keep one step ahead of him. Loved that Lady. Donna & Harry Walton

  9. Mike, Diane, Tom, I have many strong memories of your Mom. With all of us neighborhood kids, Farrells, Deenys, Welches, Olsons, running around your Mom seemed to always be there to look out for all of us. Getting us into the basement when storms were coming, keeping us out of danger. Her house, your house, was always open to all of us.
