Virgil Gebel

Virgil G. Gebel, age 84 of Waterloo, formerly of Little Turkey and North Washington, Iowa died Friday, September 18, 2009, at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at Assumption Parish, Little Turkey with Rev. David Beckman officiating. Vocalist will be Lynette Wheeler. The pall will be placed by Virgil’s sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Bob Welter. The offertory gifts will be presented by Mike and Kathy Welter. Lector for the service will be David Welter.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Little Turkey, with David Welter, Jeff Welter, Mike Welter, Virgil Hilsman, Bob Eischeid and Dan Carlin as pallbearers.
Friends may call 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary and a 6:00 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation continues 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Virgil was born August 31, 1925, on the Gebel Family Farm near North Washington, Iowa, the son of Ben and Frances (Hilsman) Gebel. He received his education at St. Mary’s Catholic School in North Washington.
Virgil was united marriage to Mildred Panos in 1970 at Assumption Parish in Little Turkey, Iowa. The couple were married for 28 years until Mildred’s death on February 22, 1998.
Virgil retired after 32 years of employment at the former Rath Packing Company in Waterloo.
He is survived by two sisters, Rita (Bob) Welter of Cedar Falls and Rosella Eischeid of New Hampton; 12 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mildred; one brother, Donald Gebel.
