Violet Joy Albrecht was born Sept. 10, 1934, to Louis and Vlasta Marie (Papousek) Sostak at the Sostak home in Gregory, Gregory County, South Dakota. The family lived for a short time in town before moving to a farm southwest of Gregory. The parents farmed and the father worked in town. Violet’s 3 siblings were born on this farm and she helped care for them while the mother did farm chores.
Due to hard times in the depression years, more so in Dakota because of drought and grasshoppers, the family moved to a farm near Claremont, Dodge County, Minnesota in 1941. The parents farmed and milked cows. Violet began grade school attending Dodge County Public School #45. In 1945 the Sostak family moved to a farm north of Fredericksburg to be closer to family. The Sostak children attended school at New Hampton district number two where Violet graduated from the eighth grade in May 1949. She attended New Hampton High School for two years transferring to the Fredericksburg High School for her junior and senior years due to school bus availability. She graduated in May 1953 and assisted at home and did work for farm families before becoming employed December 1955 as secretary and bookkeeper at Family Loan Service Inc. September 1956 Violet began work as reporter and clerk for the New Hampton Newspapers later becoming news editor.
Violet was baptized April 5, 1963 and confirmed April 7, 1963 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton. She completed work for the New Hampton Newspapers in the summer of 1964.
She was united in marriage to Darrell Duane Albrecht at Trinity Lutheran Church May 4, 1963. The couple lived at the Firemen Apartments on Locust Avenue before moving into a new home. Violet enjoyed watching the lowa football and basketball games on TV, putting puzzles together, working crossword and Sudoku puzzles, genealogy, quilting at Trinity, gardening, walking and reading. The couple enjoyed traveling by motor coach, playing cards, going to auctions, and attending their grandchildren’s sport activities.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Darrell Albrecht of New Hampton; two sons, David (Robyn) Albrecht of Jackson, MI, Duane (Cecelia) Albrecht of Mountain View, HI; one daughter, Ann (Rick) Heying of Alta Vista; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Beverly (Ron) Hattig of Fredericksburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Louis Sostak Jr; one sister, Blanche Sostak.

My sympathy to the Albrecht family. I have many good memories of Darrell and Vi being great neighbors to my parents, George & Anna Zeien, and then also with me when I moved back to N.H. We had many good morning coffees with Cletus & Doris Ries. I so enjoyed the friendship and support from both of these families. Such examples to live up to!
