Vincentia M. Chihak, age 97, of Elma, IA, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at her home. Vincentia "Vin" Marie was born on July 7, 1917 the daughter of Frank and Amanda Goetz in Wesley, IA. She was raised on farm near Lourdes. On June 10, 1942, Vin was united in marriage to Rudolph Chihak. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and was proud of the years she spent as a sacristan at church. Vin enjoyed gardening, and treasured her time spent with her family, and the friendships she developed while living at Afton Oaks. Vin is survived by her children, Jeanne (Harvey) Nelson of Cedar Rapids, IA, Donna Markakis of Wheeling, IL, Ann (John) Kelly of Cedar Rapids, Mary Jo (Gary) Ries of Elma, IA, Pete Chihak of Cedar Rapids, and Peggy (Steve) Beaston of Centralia, MO; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rudy; her son, Fran; four brothers, Frank, Stan, Vincent, and Joseph; four sisters, Sister Stanislaus, OSF, Rose, Ruth, and Peg; and two grandsons, Jim Pejchl and David Beaston.

You have been blessed with the many years that you had your mother with you. “Unforgettable,” is the only word that could describe Aunt Vin. She was special to me and a true blessing.   6. To all my Chihak cousins I just want you all to know that each of you are in my thoughts and prayers. I wont say that in time it gets better it is just different. You were all so lucky to have your mom with you for so many years. After my mom passed I used to enjoy talking to aunt Mike on the phone, she just kind of reminded me of mom.   7. I will always remember her warm heart, her laughter, her zeal for life but most of all the love she had for her family and our God. I know the angels were singing when she arrived, I just hope and pray they have BINGO up there. She always was a light in this dark world, she will be missed.
