Vincent Peter Lensing was born February 5, 1938, near Jackson Junction, IA, the son of George and Catherine (Gilbert) Lensing.
Vincent’s formative years were spent in the nurturing environments of St. Mary’s School in Waucoma and St. Joseph School in New Hampton. He proudly graduated from New Hampton High School in 1957.
It was on a blind date that Vincent met the love of his life, Wilma Sobolik of Cresco. Their connection was immediate and unbreakable. The couple exchanged vows on September 8, 1962, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, IA. Together, they welcomed three beloved children into the world: Steve, Julie, and Mary.
Vincent and Wilma established their home on a farm northwest of New Hampton, where they both thrived in the rural way of life. Vincent’s passion for farming was evident in his meticulous care for his dairy herd and the numerous hogs he raised over the years. His strong work ethic not only sustained his family but also set a powerful example for his children and grandchildren.
Beyond his commitment to the land, Vincent had a rich life filled with varied interests. His talent for woodworking led him to create many cherished pieces for their family home. For over three decades, Vincent and Wilma were devoted members of the Chicka-squares, square-dancing their way into the hearts of many. Vincent found joy in working the Knights of Columbus BINGO, engaging in spirited card games, and embarking on numerous bus trips with his beloved Wilma.
A man of faith, Vincent was an active member of Holy Family parish. His generosity extended into his local community, where he was known for his dedication to delivering Meals-on-Wheels.
Above all, Vincent cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, embracing the role of “Papa”. He imparted wisdom in his gentle way, often reminding them that “you learn more from listening than you do from talking.” This simple yet profound advice is a legacy that his grandchildren and all who knew him will carry forward.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; three children, Steve (Michele) Lensing of Fredericksburg, Julie Lensing of North Liberty, IA; Mary (Rich) Cross of Farmington, NM; seven grandchildren, Madison Cross, Richard Cross, Jordan Stern, Tyler Stern, Nolan Stern, Ashley Lensing, Nichole Caldararo; one great grandson, Parker Landon; sisters, Grace Gerleman of St. Lucas, IA, Therese Orthaus of Ionia, IA; sister-in-law, Kathy Lensing of New Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, William &
Adeline Sobolik; siblings, Eugene (Glenda) Lensing, Margaret (Cyril) Bohr, Maurita (Elmer) Marpe, Gilbert Lensing, Mary (Bob) Beckley.
