June 13, 2018 ~ June 19, 2018
Scott L. Schwier, 63, of New Hampton, IA, died Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton with Andy Hugeback, certified funeral celebrant, presiding. Friends may greet the family from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday before the service at the funeral home.
Scott Leslie Schwier was born February 3, 1955, in Chadron, NE, to Lynn W. and Donnabeth (Bressler) Schwier. Shortly after he was born, the Schwier family moved to Cherokee, IA, where Scott received his education and was a 1973 graduate of Washington High School. While attending college at South Dakota State, he met his future wife, Karen Ingalls. They were united in marriage on May 1, 1976, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. To this union, three children were born: Alana, Jaime and Paul.
Scott worked for Fareway for many years, serving as an employee at the Cherokee and Washington stores, as assistant manager at the Humboldt and Newton stores and, beginning in 1992, as manager at the New Hampton location.
Scott acquired a great love for the outdoors beginning with his childhood days spent fishing at Spring Lake Park, but his love for fishing and hunting were most enjoyed when sharing them with his family, first his wife and children and later on his grandchildren, with whom each “first” was celebrated and commemorated. He also enjoyed playing co-ed softball and golfing with his wife as well as spending time at the Izaak Walton League while living in Newton. Scott loved watching fishing shows and the Discovery channel, eagerly anticipating Shark Week along with his kids each year. He also enjoyed camping trips with his family, especially during the annual Fourth of July celebration on the Ingalls family farm in Chester, SD. Scott’s favorite times were spent with his grandchildren and his beloved dog, Ezra.
Scott will be dearly missed by his survivors, including his wife of 42 years, Karen; two daughters, Alana (Ryan) Brown of Kansas City, MO, and Jaime (Brock) Frahm of New Hampton; one son, Paul (Ashley) Schwier of New Hampton; six grandchildren, Roland Brown, Jarett Frahm, Jacob Frahm, Hayden Frahm, Paul Schwier and Spencer Schwier; his father, Lynn Schwier of Cherokee, IA; three brothers, Steven (Wanda) Schwier of Atlantic, IA, Bret (Cindy) Schwier of Elk Point, SD, and Craig Schwier of Parryton, TX; and his mother-in-law, Fran Ingalls of Parker SD.
He was preceded in death by his mother; a grandson, Tyler Ronnei; and his father-in-law, Darrell Ingalls.
May the memories of your loved one console you in the next days. So sorry to hear about Scott, he was a great man. All our thoughts and prayers. Jeanne and David Roder
