Ruth J. Bodensteiner, age 90 of Lawler, Iowa, died Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Bartels Retirement Community in Waverly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler with Rev. Nick March celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed by her three children. Lector for the service will be Brian Mihm. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Joshua Mihm, Andrew Mihm and Nathan Mihm.
Interment will be in the church cemetery with Brian Mihm, Laura Rockwell , Ross Bodensteiner, Jeff Bodensteiner, Jenna VanPolen, Christopher Huber, Lindsey Funk and Molly Doolittle as pallbearers.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and 6:00 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Ruth Julia Bodensteiner was born December 24, 1923, on the Wenthold family farm near Festina, IA, the daughter of John and Anna (Busch) Wenthold. She received her education in Festina. On September 29, 1942, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, she was united in marriage to Arnold “Arnie” Bodensteiner. She helped her husband on the farm north of Lawler while also raising their three children. They moved into Lawler in 1975 and later retired from farming. Arnie died on September 17, 2008 at the age of 90.
Ruth was always very active in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
She loved bowling and playing cards. Ruth and Arnie both loved dancing and would jump at the chance to head to a ballroom. The time she spent with her family and grandchildren was always the most important to her. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include one son, Wayne (June) Bodensteiner of Lawler; two daughters, Inez Ann (Thomas) Mihm of Eagan, MN, Eileen Elizabeth (Carl) Huber of Dike, IA; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Albert, Herbert, Leo, Felix and Jim Wenthold; three sisters, Mathilda Kleve, Mary Kleve and Julitta Meyer.

Inez, Wayne and Eileen, I will always hold many fond memories of your Mom. She was a gracious lady who made us all feel special and welcome to her home.
