On March 14, 1950, Ruth married Merle McGrath at St. Joseph’s in New Hampton and remained a member of the parish the rest of her life. Merle and Ruth spent 57 years together in New Hampton. They enjoyed several interesting trips throughout the years, but Hawaii was always her favorite. She took great pride in raising her five children and often helped out at McGrath Implement, the family business. Ruth was known for her great cooking and baking. She loved having family and friends visit and share a cup of coffee and often enjoy some fresh cookies or baked goods. Ruth loved the outdoors and spending time tending to her flowers and mowing lawn. On Saturday evenings she looked forward to going to mass at St. Joe’s and out to dinner with a special group of friends. We would like to thank all of our wonderful friends, family members, and neighbors who have been so helpful and caring throughout her battle with lung cancer. A special thanks to Dr. Tracy Mixdorf who was always there to support our family. 9. Peggy, Mike, Steve, Deb and Shelly, I am so sad to learn of Aunt Ruth’s passing, and my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. But, she would not want us to be sad. She would only want us to remember how absolutely fun she was; that distinct, devilish twinkle in her eye; her smile; her ‘can do’ attitude; her uniqueness. She was not a typical ‘aunt’ but more like an ‘older girlfriend’ to me but at the same time a mentor with wise counsel to take hard times ‘one day at a time.’ She was always forward-looking and never dwelt on the negative either past or present–always encouraging. We will all miss her a lot, but we were so blessed to have her in our lives for as long as we did. I’ll miss her meals, having coffee with her and tours of the gardens whenever I was ‘home.’ Aunt Ruth was so blessed that you helped and looked after her so closely. She acknowledged that and expressed her thankfulness for it always. She appreciated the family gatherings and felt secure because you were always there for her. God bless you for that. I won’t be able to be with you for the services, but I will be with you in spirit. You are so much in my thoughts and prayers. Judy Gruenberg

  10. Aunt Ruth you will be missed by all your family and friends. Thank You for being a wonderful Aunt and my Godmother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wonderful family. Liz Jenkins
