Russ Lynn Obermeier age 69 of New Hampton, IA passed away peacefully Thursday, August 27, 2026, surrounded by his family, at his home.
A Celebration of Life for Russ will be held on Sept 20th, from 2:00–6:00 PM, at the Youth Enrichment Center at the Floyd County Fairgrounds, 2516 7 Mile Rd, Charles City, IA 50616.
Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton have been entrusted with Russ’ arrangements.
Russ was born October 19, 1956, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Merlin and Mary (Miller) Obermeier. He attended school in Charles City and graduated with the Class of 1974 from Charles City High School.
Russ’s love for motorcycles began at an early age. While he was still in high school, he owned a motorcycle, which led him to begin working at Hickle Repair Shop shortly after graduation. What started as a job became the beginning of a lifelong passion for motorcycles. Russ enjoyed everything about riding and working around motorcycles and remained an avid rider throughout his life.
Russ was united in marriage to Kathy Carmody, and to this union three children were born, Amy, Christy, and Jeff. The couple later divorced.
After his time at Hickle Repair Shop, Russ began driving truck, a career he truly enjoyed. He drove for Shipper Service before eventually driving for Norseman Trucking out of Lake Mills. Russ enjoyed his years on the road and the freedom that came with being a truck driver.
Through a mutual friend, Russ met Raeanne Liddle, and the two began a relationship that would become a lasting partnership. They were united in marriage on November 18, 2004. Russ and Raeanne shared many adventures together, especially on their motorcycle. They made numerous trips to Sturgis, South Dakota, enjoying the open road and the motorcycle culture along the way. They also enjoyed taking their side-by-side on trips to South Dakota and Wisconsin, always looking forward to their next adventure together. Another adventure the couple enjoyed doing together was riding snowmobile, doing trips together with their friends, to Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Russ was a big fan of NASCAR and enjoyed both attending races and watching them whenever he could. He loved the excitement of the races, but some of his happiest times were much closer to home, spending time with his grandchildren. Russ cherished every opportunity to be with them and took great pride in watching them grow. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and the memories they made together will be treasured by his family for years to come.
Russ is survived by his wife, Raeanne of New Hampton; mother, Mary Obermeier of Charles City; three daughters, Amy Obermeier of El Mirage, AZ, Christy Fuhrmann of Peoria, AZ, Nickole (Dan) Dewein of Janesville, IA; one son, Mitch (Kelsey Huinker) Liddle of New Hampton. six grandchildren, Landon (Cody) Berk of Phoenix, AZ, Ryder Fuhrmann of Peoria, AZ, Rylee Liddle of New Hampton, Layla Dewein of Janesville, Lily Dewein of Janesville, Rowyn Liddle of New Hampton; great-grandchild Nora Berk; eight siblings, Joe (Penny) Obermeier of Charles City, Brenda (Tom) Marpe of Charles City, Sheryl (Howie) McGinnis of Antelope, CA, Kim Mullaney Le Grand, IA, Jacque Hennick of Charles City, Melonie (Bob) Welter of Rockford, Shelly (Arlyn) Wood of Rudd, Trisha (Todd) Dobson of Le Grand.
He is preceded in death by his father, Merlin; one son, Jeffrey, mother and father-in-law, James and Geraldine Lenehan.
