She was the daughter of Orville Franklin and Alta Janetta (Elliott) Swancutt. Rosella was the fifth child of eleven children. She attended rural schools in Howard County. At the beginning of her high school years the family moved to Charles City Iowa, where she graduated in 1941. On January 14, 1942, she was united in marriage to Ralph Gauger and then made her home in New Hampton, Iowa. To this union two sons were born, Arvid and Gary. The couple farmed for ten years before moving into town. Rosella worked at Powell's Variety Store and then had the opportunity to become the baker at the public schools, both elementary and high schools, where she remained until she retired. Rosella loved to read, visit with friends and family, play cards, needlework, and continued her love of baking. In her later years, her eyesight failing, she had to give up many of her hobbies. In 1996, her husband, Ralph died at the age of 79. Rosella remained in her home until she sold it and then moved to The Miller Apartments. In 2011, she moved to Whispering Willow Assisted Living in Fredericksburg. 3. To Rosella’s family, My husband and I went visiting one evening for Trinity Lutheran Church and we started at Whispering Willow in Fredericksburg. We had the honor of meeting your mother and got the chance to visit with her for a while. What a joy it was. She was such a fabulous and sweet lady and we so enjoyed talking with her. We just wanted your family to know how much your mother touched our lives even though we only visited with her once. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in the days ahead. May God Bless each of you. Jane & Chuck Schultz

  4. To Roses’ Family, I have my response kinda mixed up but I just want to say I worked with Rose many years at school and we had alot of fun those years while working, We also went to the same church and my husband used to play cards with Ralph years back in the bar so I knew your folks well. I can’t be at her funeral because I will be spending next week with my daughter out of town, she lost her husband (age 42) in June and I lost my husband last Feb. You have my deepest sympathy and knoww that Rose is in heaven now looking down on you all. God Bless Linda Stolfus

  5. To the Family of Rosella Gauger, We want to send you our sympathy. We always enjoyed Rosella for her sweet smile and comments. She would always have something to chat about, we so enjoyed having her with us at the Miller. Tom and Ruth Bernatz

  6. Gary and Arvid and family: My prayers are with you all. We know she is in a much better place where she can keep an eye on Ralph now. Rosella and I had so many good times together over the years. Lots of talking about life and family and laughing a lot. Even if her stubborness came out once in awhile(well, maybe a lot). She was like a 2nd Mom to me. I still laugh about her saying she couldn’t see anything anymore but she could find that little white speck on the carpet. See you all soon when you get to Iowa. Sharon Carpenter

  7. To Rosella’s family: Our sympathy and prayers go out to all of you. Rosella was a dear friend and she brought many happy days to my dad when they would go out to eat and drive around town. Our family enjoyed including her to all of our family events. Lots of wonderful memories. We are unable to be at the service as we are out of state but know our thoughts will be with you. Howard and Sharon Bunger
