Ronald Bast

Ronald James Bast age 65 of Fredericksburg, IA died Thursday, November 3, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in New Hampton, IA. Ron's family and friends will mourn in private - there will be no public services. Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory have been entrusted with Ronald's arrangements. Ron was born in Cedar falls, Ia on May 11, 1957 to Cliff and Sally (Johnson) Bast. He and his family, including four siblings, moved to Nashua where they continued to primarily reside over the years. Ron spent thirteen years with his partner Melinda Evitt, whom he met in Minnesota. The couple moved to Fredericksburg, IA eight years ago and continued to reside there until present. Ron had two sons, Rusty and Calvin, who live in St. Paul, Minnesota. He also had one granddaughter he thought the world of, Presley Bast, who was the absolute apple of his eye and had grandpa wrapped around her finger. Ron spent many years farming crops, working with dairy cattle and hogs, and working as a laborer in Iowa, Minnesota and Colorado. During his free time, Ron was a big movie buff — anything comedy or action, especially movies with Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Jean-Claude van Damme or Sylvester Stallone, were must-see. Ron also enjoyed listening to country music, especially Alan Jackson, and was a life-long Elvis Presley fan. He collected Elvis memorabilia as well as art involving bald eagles. Ron is survived by Melinda of Fredericksburg; his two sons Calvin and Rusty Bast of St. Paul Minnesota; his granddaughter, Presley Bast; one brother, Craig Bast of Colorado; and one sister, Cathy Rain of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Sally; a brother, Richard Bast; and a sister, Jean Hodge. 563-237-6212.
