Roger Anderson, age 80 of Lawler, IA passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton, following complications from a stroke. Roger was born March 22, 1934, in Clear Lake, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Mattie (Young) Anderson. He attended schools in Clear Lake, Ionia, and Lawler, graduating from Lawler High School in 1953. He attended Iowa State University, was drafted into the Army from which he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant, before graduating from Iowa State with a BS degree in animal husbandry. Roger was united in marriage to Gladys Hildahl on June 19, 1960. He and Gladys had one son, Scott, before her death on June 11, 1965. He was then united in marriage to Linda Moetsch on September 27, 1969. They had two more children, David and Leslie. The couple later divorced, but remained close friends. Roger farmed north of Lawler and worked for Sara Lee until it closed. Roger enjoyed farming even in retirement, was the former president of the Lawler Co-op Board, sat on the Chickasaw County Beef Producers Board, was a member of the Turkey Valley school board from 1983-1988, and enjoyed volunteering to paint the Turkey Valley football field each fall. He is survived by his family, Linda, Scott (Doris), Beth and Nathan Anderson of Lawler; David (Amanda), Luke Anderson of St. Lucas; Leslie (Joseph), Annie, Raymond of Lawler; one brother, Mike (Louise) of Clyde, Texas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys, his parents, his sister Colleen, and his brother William.

  5. I met Roger when we were both attending Iowa State. If I am not mistaken, I seem to remember that he sand in a quartet with Spencer Hildahl, Gordy Nicks and myself. I always thought Roger was a great guy and am sorry we werent able to keep in contact over the years. I send my sympathies to the family and pray that God will comfort and strengthen you in this time of grief. God Bless.

  11. I have good memories of knowing Roger. We became better acquainted while we were volunteers painting the Turkey Valley football field. There were numerous conversations and topics as well as good fun. Roger always let you know where he stood related to a particular point or points of view. A good friend, our paint crew team will miss his physical presence but I know he will be supervising from overhead. We might even hear a growl once in a while. May you rest in peace. Karlos McClure
