Robert L. Wendland age 85 of Fredericksburg, Iowa died Thursday evening, December 2, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday December 6th, 2010 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg with Rev. Ronnie Koch officiating. Janiece Kramer will be the organist leading the congregation singing, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “The Church's One Foundation” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with full military honors conducted by the Fredericksburg AMVETS Post #90. Pallbearers will be Lucas Wendland, Kristin Wendland, Melissa Wendland, Kayla Wendland, Jessie Wendland, Mick Wendland and Jen Wendland. Friends may greet the family 3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5th at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Robert LaVerne Wendland was born August 1, 1925, in Hawkeye, Iowa, the son of Walter and Alice L. (Hoepfner) Wendland. He graduated from the Alpha High School in 1943. After graduation Robert entered the United States Army on June 22, 1945, at Fort Snelling, MN. He was honorably discharged on February 10, 1947, with a Victory Medal and an Occupation Medal from Germany. On June 6, 1950, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – Siegel rural Waverly, IA, he was united in marriage to Mildred Quade. The couple initially lived and farmed near Alpha, Iowa, later purchasing their first farm West of Fredericksburg. Robert served as Treasurer for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boyd and was a 4-H Leader. After retiring from farming in 1986 the couple moved into Fredericksburg. Bob worked for Stork Hatchery, Inc. and helped Mildred run a craft shop. Bob is survived by three sons; Allan (Sandra) Wendland of Steven Pt., WI, Richard (Julie) Wendland of Little Canada, MN and Mark (Janice) Wendland of Fredericksburg; one brother, Donald (Mary Beth) Wendland of Waucoma; one sister-in-law, Alice Wendland of Fredericksburg; seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mildred on November 23, 1994; one brother, Russell Wendland and one sister, Marilyn Blanch.
