Robert E. Moore age 86 of Fredericksburg died Monday, August 4, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church, Fredericksburg with Pastor Todd Yeaton presiding. Interment will be at Apostolic Cemetery, rural Elgin, IA, with Eugene Moore, Kent Moore, Melvin Moore, Kevin Moore, Larry Moore, and Lucas Moore serving as pallbearers. Dale Moore will be presiding at the interment services. Military Honors will be provided by Elgin American Legion Post #352. Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Online condolences may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com. Robert Eugene Moore was born June 4, 1928, in rural Clayton County, IA, the son of Emil and Esther (Frieden) Moore. Bob attended his early schooling at Marion #9 country school and was a graduate from Elgin High School in 1948. After graduation, Bob worked as a farm hand in the Elgin area for a couple of years. He was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Korean War earning many service medals. Upon arriving home, he earned a job at the Elgin Post Office working as a clerk. Bob introduced himself to Myrna Laue, a new teacher arriving in Elgin and they were married on August 5, 1956, at the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs, IA. To this union two children were born. The couple lived in Elgin where he worked at the Post Office. Bob worked at the Post Office for 40 years spending time in Elgin, Decorah, Lawler, and Fredericksburg. He was very proud to have trained several people that eventually became Postmasters. Bob had many interests that included golfing, trout fishing, tinkering with about anything, camping, spending time at the Moor Homestead, picnics and traveling. He cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife, Myrna; one son, Alan (Johnna) Moore of Bettendorf, IA; one daughter, Nancy (David) Zittergruen of Chaska, MN; four grandchildren, Siouxzee Moore, Joseph Zittergruen, Rachel Zittergruen, and Evan Moore; two sister-in-laws, Joan Moore, and Elsie Moore, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, Leonard, Orville, Herman, Werner, William, Clarence, and Leo in infancy; four sister-in-laws, Bernita, Sarah, Elizabeth, Ramona; two nephews, Lennis Moore, Wilmer Moore; one great-nephew, Wade Christofferson.

  2. Our love, and prayers are with our very special family in Iowa today. Uncle Bob and Aunt Myrna have been there for SO many nieces and nephews, and family events. May you all feel the comfort and presence of the Lord today as you lay our dear, dear Uncle Bob to rest. His life has been a wonderful example to our generation and was one well lived. I can see you in Heaven, Uncle Bob, surrounded by your 7 brothers swapping stories and all sharing a good laugh.

  3. Myrna, I just found out that Bob passed away. I live in Peoria, IL and I have the picture of the class reunion from last month, taken at the Elgin Cafe in front of me. It brings back many happy memories of time we spent together. You have my deepest sympathy! I know the feeling. My prayers are with you!

  10. Bobby was my friend and mentor. He was my first boss in the post office 28 years ago. Never thought that he would be my neighbor. That was such a blessing. I always enjoyed talking with Bobby. I was told today by Nancy that not everyone could get by calling him Bobby, but he never told me not to. I loved Bobby and pray that God has a special place for him in heaven. I will miss him dearly. Love you sweet Bobby!!! Rest in peace.
