Rita Marie Heying, age 86 of North Washington, Iowa died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington with Msgr. Carl Schmitt celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by her children. Lectors for the service will be Mary & Dave Capperand and Kathy Schaufenbuel. The offertory gifts will be presented by Rose and Doug Ganfield. Eucharistic ministers will be Irene & Cecil Bullis and Sharon Heying. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Washington with Chris Heying, Bille Kobliska, Tony Kobliska, Bob Schwickerath, Jami Schwickerath, Charles Bullis, Mark Bullis and Kenny Bullis as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Kathy Schaufenbuel, Roxanne Felder, Sue Fisher, Barbara Kobliska, Debra Ritzman, Dawn Meier, Melissa Schwickerath, Elly Toussaint, Judy Bullis, Rebecca Rumsey, Charlotte Leydon, Jennifer Sanford, Jessica Capper and Caroline Capper. Friends may call 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 3:00 p.m. Rosary and a 6:30 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday. Rita Marie Heying was born May 17, 1922, near Ossian, IA, the daughter of Herman and Agnes (Hemeseth) Bohr. She received her education at St. Francis De Sales School in Ossian. On May 9, 1944, at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Ossian she married Linus Heying. To this union six children were born. In the couple’s early years, they farmed near Alta Vista, then near New Hampton and North Washington retiring in 1983. Linus died on September 1, 1985, at the age of 64. Rita loved cooking for family gatherings, quilting, embroidering, playing cards with family and friends and being involved in farming with her husband. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Rosary Society in North Washington. Survivors include one son, Daniel (Sharon) Heying of Alta Vista; five daughters, Marlys (Raymond) Kobliska of Elma, IA, Louise Schwickerath of New Hampton, Irene (Cecil) Bullis of Waterloo, Mary (David) Capper of Washington, IA, Rose (Douglas) Ganfield of Waterloo; 22 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 21 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sister Marie Bohr O.S.F. of Dubuque; one sister-in-law, Catherine Bohr of Ossian. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, John Schwickerath; eight brothers, William Bohr, Anthony Bohr, John Bohr, Clement Bohr, Father Jerome Bohr, Hugo Bohr in infancy, Father Richard Bohr and Hugo Bohr; four sisters, Rose Heying, Agnes Heying, Pauline Holthaus and Hilda Holthaus.

We know what you are going through, although if she was like my dad, he would say ‘No more pills, no more insulin, no more oxygen, no more doctors and I can eat what I want to when I want to!! Remember those good times you had with your mom.

  10. I am saddened at Aunt Rita’s passing. One thinks that some people are going to be around forever and she was one. I always looked forward to the possibility of seeing her when I made a trip to Iowa. And thanks to my brother, Adrian, it happened many times. So enjoyed the time I spent with her at her home last December; she always made me smile. My sincere condolences go to her family and friends. I know there will be an emptiness for somethime to come.
