Resided in: New Hampton, Iowa

Richard Slick Jr. age 66 of New Hampton, IA known by many as Dickie, passed away on June 15, 2024, at his home.

A celebration of life will be held at Here’z 2 U in Fredericksburg on Monday, June 24, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Born on November 27, 1957, to Richard and Barbara (Moody) Slick. Richard’s early years were spent in Colo where he attended elementary school.  The family then moved to the Fredericksburg area where he attended junior high.

Dickie met and married Cindy Klemp in 1977, and over the next 10 years, they had 5 children, Kandy, Travis, Nicole, Mandy, and Joshua.

Dickie was known as a jack of all trades, having worked concrete with his dad, being a farm hand, and especially in vehicle and tractor repair. He enjoyed mechanic work enough to even be part of a stock car team for many years with several of his longest friends.  He even was part of Chuckwagon Racers of Iowa-Minnesota on a couple of different teams in a couple of different roles

Dickie’s favorite role however was becoming a grandparent and being called “Bumpa”.

He enjoyed a bit of hunting, fishing, and animals, especially the challenged animals.  The calves at a sale barn missing a limb or blind, the horses that no one wanted, the baby raccoons he found abandoned.  If an animal had an uphill battle to fight, he was in their corner.  This probably stemmed from his battles having survived polio as a child.

Dickie is survived by daughters Kandy (Jeremy) Quass and Mandy (Jarod) Gilbert all of New Hampton; son Joshua Slick of Fredericksburg, IA. eight grandchildren, Dakota Quass, Justice Quass, Dezirae (Austin) Hageman, Bailey Jones, Jerzi Jones, Kaylee Slick, Cassidy Jones, and Kaylynn Slick and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lorne (Carmela) Slick and Gerard Slick all of New Hampton, four sisters; Pam Schwiesow, Garber, IA, Steph Nystel and Judy Feltz of New Hampton, Kelly (Mike) Henning, Sumner and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Travis Slick, a daughter, Nicole Slick, his parents; one brother Rick Slick, one sister Gloria Slick.
