Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Community School in New Hampton, St. Croix Hospice or a charity of your choice. Richard was born on February 24, 1940, to Paul and Velma (Mettner) TeKippe in New Hampton. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1957. He received his Bachelor of Arts in economics from Loras College, Dubuque in 1961 and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa Law School, Iowa City in 1964. He was an avid Chickasaw and Hawkeye fan his entire life. Richard met the love of his life, Margaret "Marge" (Fitzgerald), in high school and their love story began with their February 14, 1955, Sweetheart Dance and they never stopped dancing. They wed on June 11, 1960, in Lourdes. Their union created five children and many grandchildren, each of them great. Richard valued empathy, service, and giving back to his community. He served as an Assistant County Attorney in Dubuque and was elected to several terms as Chickasaw County Attorney. He was an active leader, teammate, and often officer and president of many organizations he cared deeply about; including the Chickasaw County, Iowa, and American Bar associations and the Iowa County Attorneys Association, the New Hampton Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Lions Club, Jaycees, St. Joseph's Parish Council, United Way Board, and the St. Joe's Choir. Richard loved his family and friends, singing, dancing, boating and fishing, playing bridge and euchre, and plenty of golf. He and Marge traveled the world, from Alaska to New Orleans, Hawaii to New York and Mexico, from Seattle to Paris and Rome. But they always came home to New Hampton and their beloved Chickasaws. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Velma, and daughter, Laura. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Margaret, sons Jeff, Joe (Jeanne), John (Sherri), Jim (Stephanie), grandchildren Paul, Michael, JR, Hannah, Gerene, Richard, Madison, and Nick, and great grandson Elliott, and the many family and friends whom he cared so deeply about.

  31. So sorry for your loss. Have recently explored ancestors due to a mysterious un-postmarked photo postcard found recently. It is addressed only “Miss Josie Iverson” who I believe is my aunt on my fathers side. Based on Jerico church records (1894 – 1932), the girl in the picture (1909) may be my great aunt, Anna B Hildahl Johnson Mettner who would be Richard TeKippes grandmother. Please let me know if interested in a copy of the photo postcard. I can be contacted at 319-270-1947, or jberentsen@mchsi.com.
