Born on October 21, 1937, in New Hampton to Edward and Clara (Ross) Boehmer, Richard lived a life marked by love, generosity, and a selfless spirit that touched all who knew him.
Richard’s early years were spent in the rolling fields and open skies of Iowa, where he attended a rural country school through the 8th grade. His strong work ethic was evident from a young age as he began his career at McGregor farms in Nashua. Later, he contributed his skills and dedication to Terrex Crane in Waverly, where he was highly respected by his colleagues for his reliability and expertise.
The most cherished chapter of Richard’s life began at a dance in Bassett, where he met the love of his life, Patricia. They married on May 5, 1955, and together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and an enduring love that remains an inspiration to all who were privileged to witness it. Though Patricia predeceased him, their love story continued to be celebrated by those who knew them.
Richard was a man of simple pleasures and deep passions. He was an avid ice fisherman, relishing the tranquility and challenge of the sport. His competitive yet playful spirit shone through in card games with his brothers, cribbage being his favorite. Known for his love of bonfires and beers, Richard was always the life of the party, his laughter and stories drawing people together.
Above all, Richard was a family man. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, believing that time with family was the most valuable gift one could give and receive. His home was a welcoming haven where warmth and camaraderie were always in abundance. Richard’s presence was a comfort and a joy, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.
Those who knew Richard will remember his approachable demeanor and his innate ability to make others feel at ease. He was the kind of neighbor everyone wished for—always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or share a kind word. His generous nature extended beyond his immediate circle, as he was known in the community for his willingness to help others without expecting anything in return.
Richard is survived by sons: Richard (Charlet) Boehmer of Nashua, Bryon (Brenda) Boehmer of Charles City, and Randy (Ronda) Boehmer of Waverly; daughter Debbie Dankmeyer of Nashua; brothers: Duane (Eileen) Boehmer of LaPorte City and Timmy Boehmer of Arizona; 18 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Clara (Ross) Boehmer; wife Patricia (Hoy); children: Connie Hamm, Brenda Boehmer, and Darren Boehmer; and siblings: LaVern Boehmer, Edward Boehmer Jr., Leonard Boehmer, and Gerald Boehmer.
