Reynolds 'Little Man' Oxendine, age 74, of New Hampton, Iowa died Friday March 15, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Music for the service will be provided by Dennis Strum, organist and Damian Baltes, vocalist. Tom Straw will be the crossbearer. Private family inurnment will take place at the New Hampton City Cemetery with Jeremy Oxendine, Kyle Oxendine, Justin Nelson, Keaton Matthews, Tyler Kuhn, Seth Nordmeyer and Rusty Matthews as pallbearers. Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Reynolds 'Little Man' Oxendine was born November 25, 1938, in Pembroke, NC. He was the fourth of eighteen children born to James and Docia (LockLear) Oxendine. He received his education in North Carolina. As a young man, Little Man worked for the telephone company traveling around the United States. He was working in Lawler, Iowa when he met a young girl named Marlene Kalkbrenner. Despite the cold climate, he settled into Iowa and on August 4, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, he married Marlene Kalkbrenner. To this union four children were born. Little Man was a self employed electrician for many years in the New Hampton area. He will be remembered by his family for the fun asparagus hunting parties and the fishing and hunting trips he made. Throughout his entire life, he enjoyed having a large vegetable garden. His wife Marlene died on March 16, 2011, at the age of 70. Survivors include one son, Steve (Deb Poock) Oxendine of New Hampton; three daughters, Jean (Bill Sherrill) Franzen of Monroe, NC, Susan (T.C.) Matthews of New Hampton, Sally (Steve) Mills of Charles City; six grandchildren, Jeremy Oxendine, Kyle Oxendine, Keaton Matthews, Nichole (Justin) Nelson, Brittany Kuhn and Tyler Kuhn; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Nelson and Madison Matthews; four brothers, seven sisters; caregiver and friend, Rusty Matthews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, James Matthews; two sisters;, four brothers.

  3. Hey i won’t be able to attend the services,due to illness, however my heart goes out to you all. That is great picture of him and I am glad to look at it and remember him that way. Death is hard no matter when it is, but as the people who are left behind we must look to our savior, and believe that he knows best. Just think what it would be like to go to a peaceful place and see all our loved ones that went before us, and to hope that when it is our time to leave earth that they will be their to welcome us in the peaceful home that the Lord has chosen for us. You have my smpathy

  8. The Oxendine family along with many others have lost a wonderful man with a huge heart! I am so sorry for your loss. I remember being little and playing with the twins at the house on West Hale and most likely being terriorized by our big brothers as well. Good times were always possible with an Oxendine involved!
