Randolph Butterfield

Randolph "Randy" Butterfield, age 61, of McIntire, IA passed away at his home on Friday, May 1, 2020. A graveside service is being planned for a later date at McIntire Cemetery. Funeral honors will be provided by the McIntire American Legion. Online condolences may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com. Memorials may be directed to the family. Randolph Dean was born on September 25, 1958, the son of Reese and Dorothy (Espe) Butterfield in Austin, MN. He attended and graduated from Riceville High School in 1977. After graduating, Randy went on to play football for Central College at Pella before enlisting in the US Army. During his military career, Randy was stationed at Zirndorf, Germany, serving a tour in Kosovo. While stationed there, Randy met his wife, Brigitte. The couple was united in marriage on June 23, 1983, and welcomed their three children, Benjamin, Christina and Jennifer. The couple later divorced. Randy proudly served his country for 22 years before retiring as a Sargent First Class and settling back in McIntire. Randy was a life member of the Spring Valley VFW Post 4114. He enjoyed gardening, canning, and whittling wood. He loved every moment spent with his best friend and father. To those closest, Randy was known as "Big Man," and will be deeply missed by his father, Reese Butterfield of McIntire; his children, Benjamin Butterfield of Germany, Christina Cox of Lafayette, LA and Jennifer Butterfield of Germany; his grandchildren, David, Ryan and Louis; his siblings, Mark (Arnella) Butterfield of Elma, IA, Becky (Mark) Johnson of Osage, IA, Penny (Mark) Heimer of Stacyville, Wade Butterfield of Mason City, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy; and infant sister, Anne Marie.
