Randall Lewis, born October 11, 1956, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Rex and Lois (Spore) Lewis. He was the beloved husband of Naomi (Gronbach) Lewis. The two were from neighboring communities, with Naomi from Charles City, and they met through friends in a way that would change both of their lives. Randall and Naomi were married in Charles City on June 5, 1976, beginning a partnership that would span decades. In the years that followed, they moved to many different places before eventually settling in Algona, where they planted roots and built a home together while raising their children. Their life together was marked by loyalty, love, and the shared determination to create a strong and welcoming family.
Randall attended Waterloo East High School and later earned an associate degree, laying the foundation for a life of hard work and service. He became a certified para-legal and applied his skills in several banks, where he was known for his reliability and thoughtful approach to his work. He also served as a para-educator at the school, where his patience and care made a meaningful difference in the lives of students and staff alike. Throughout his career, he was respected for his steady presence and his willingness to help wherever he was needed.
Outside of work, Randall was deeply involved in his church congregation and in the broader community. He was the kind of person people could count on without hesitation, and he gave generously of his time and energy to help others. His faith and service were reflected in the many ways he supported those around him, often quietly and without seeking recognition. He understood the value of being present for others, and he lived that value each day.
Randall was known for his funny and generous nature, and his personality brought warmth and laughter to every room he entered. He had a jokeful spirit and a gift for making people smile, often with his quick wit and playful sense of humor. He loved sports, especially the Lakers and the Longhorns, and he followed them with enthusiasm. He also had a well-known love of spicy food, and he was so fond of hot sauce that his children joked he would put it on everything, even his ice cream. That same spirited enthusiasm was part of what made him so memorable to those who knew him best.
He also found great joy in his garden, where he spent time nurturing what he grew with care and patience. The garden reflected much of who he was, as it was tended with attention, pride, and a quiet sense of purpose. Among his favorite moments were the simple ones, including giving his granddaughter rides on the lawn mower, a memory his family will cherish with affection and laughter. Those small, everyday acts of love were among the many ways he showed how deeply he cared.
Randall will be remembered for the life he built, the people he helped, and the joy he brought to others. He leaves behind a family and community who will carry forward his example of generosity, humor, and steadfast love. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the kindness he shared will remain a lasting comfort to all who knew him.
Randall is survived by his wife Naomi Lewis of New Hampton; sons Nathaniel (Jennifer) Lewis of Omaha, NE and Matthew (Dawn) Lewis of Pella, IA; daughter Angela Rathjen of New Hampton; sisters Linda (Jerry) DeVore of Waterloo, IA and Peggy (Jeff) Gienau of Waterloo, IA; grandchildren: Nakia, Kodie, Londyn, Blaze, and Jemma; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rex and Lois (Spore) Lewis; and sister Sandra Claus.
