Ramona was born in Vinton, IA on March 30, 1940, the daughter of Francis Dean Goodwin and Jennie Maxine (Hansen) Goodwin.
Ramona married Darwin Doyle Beatty of Waterloo on November 11, 1956, and together the couple had five children before divorcing years later.
Ramona worked as a laborer in many different capacities over the years, such as hair dresser, semi-driver, bakery and finally settling in at Beatrice Foods where she finally retired in 2001.
Over the years she lived in the Ionia/Fredricksburg and Sumner areas until a few years before she died, when she moved to Nashua.
Ramona loved to play bingo, and bowled for several years on a bowling league in Sumner, making many friends that she never forgot. She was a lover of nature and wildlife, plants, birds and flowers and had an especially green thumb for African violets, and always had a special pet or two that meant the world to her. She loved to read, crochet, do word puzzles and play games on the computer which resulted in many friendships cultivated around the world. She always loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always a big source of pride for her. Though she was just a little over five feet tall, Ramona's strength is something her family refers to time and time again and say they all have special memories involving her never ending sense of humor and optimism. The inner-strength she drew upon in every challenging situation is something her family will always cherish.
Ramona is survived by her five children, Rosie (Beatty) Otters and her husband Robert of Fredericksburg, Kenneth Beatty and Diane Weeks of Lusby, Maryland, Robert and Rosena Beatty of Nashua, Darwin and Jamie (Frantzen) Beatty of Charles City and Edward Beatty of New Market. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Kelly Otters of Mason City, Brian and Lisa (DeSloover) Otters of Canton, MS, Josh Otters of Nashua, Paul and Laura Beatty of Clear Lake, Joseph Knutson of Fayette, Jonathan and Aimee (Palmer) Beatty of Clarksville, TN, Daniel Beatty of Bristol, TN, Justin and Amber Beatty of Nashua, Lillee Beatty of Nashua, Robert Beatty of Charles City, Aron and Sarah (Harms) Beatty of Waterloo and Nicole Beatty of New Market, Ashley Beatty and Savanna Beatty both of Charles City; 25 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Goodwin (Audrey) of Fredericksburg; and two nieces, Portia (Moon) and Greg Stone of Fredericksburg and Madena (Moon) and Brad Burman of Dewitt.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and sister Portia (Goodwin) Moon of Fredericksburg.
