Quentin Brus

Quentin Brus, age 78, of Alta Vista, IA, died on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at his home of heart failure.
Quentin Lawrence Brus was born April 2, 1931 to Ralph and Martha (Brost) Brus on the family farm near Alta Vista, IA. He attended school at St. Williams Catholic School in Alta Vista. Quentin then farmed with his father until his fathers death in 1958, and continued farming to the present. Quentin was united in marriage to Mildred Rosonke on June 2, 1953 at St. Marys Catholic Church in New Hampton. The couple made their home on the family farm where they presently live. Quentin belonged to St. Bernards Catholic Church in Alta Vista, and Catholic Order of Foresters. He previously served on St. Bernards Parish Council.
Quentin enjoyed hunting, woodworking, driving his Kawasaki all terrain vehicle around the farm, tinkering, and teasing his grandchildren.
Quentin is survived by his wife Mildred Brus; eight children Diane (Dennis) Carney of Greene, IA, David Brus of Alta Vista, Randy Brus of Alta Vista, Nancy (Chuck) Glaser of New Hampton, Norman (Bev) Brus of Waverly, IA, Jane (Dean) Grober of Charles City, IA, Lynette (Curt) Schwickerath of New Hampton, Brenda (Vern) Steidl of Mason City, IA; 13 grandchildren; one brother Roger (JoElyn) Brus of Libby, MT; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Ardell Ries; and one brother-in-law Raymond Ries.
Cemetery:
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Alta Vista with the following grandchildren serving as casket bearers: Andrew Carney, Stephen Carney, Alex Grober, Heather Glaser, Dana Glaser, and Sigrid Brus.
Visitation:
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma with a rosary at 5:00pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Elma.
Service:
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at St. Bernards Catholic Church, in Alta Vista, Iowa with Father Ray Atwood as celebrant.

The four of us are in Pharr, Texas, this winter. Our weather has been cooler and wetter than usual. Sorry we will not be at the funeral.

He was a good man and treated people with respect all his life.

Mildred and Family. I was saddened to hear about Quentin. I always think of him the first time he became acquainted with Eddy waving his green jacket at Eddy as you went down the road and Eddy was in the field.
