Phyllis M. Felder age 76, formerlyof Alta Vista, IA, died on Friday, October 16, 2009 at St. Mary's Care Center in Winsted, MN. Phyllis Mae Felder was born on September 20, 1933 to Victor and June (Ritter) Johnson in Nashua, IA. Phyllis attended and graduated from Alta Vista Public School. After graduation she was employed as a telephone operator in Mason City, Charles City and later in Alta Vista. Phyllis was united in marriage to Bernard James Felder on February 14, 1955 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Alta Vista. After their marriage the couple lived south west of Alta Vista where they farmed and raised their six children. Phyllis drove school bus for the New Hampton School District for 28 years retiring in 1998. In their retirement, the couple wintered in Arizona. Phyllis enjoyed and had a great love for being with family and friends. She loved traveling, watching sports, playing cards, preparing food for family events and being in Arizonas warm weather. Phyllis is survived by six children; Mitchell (Pat) of Carthage, NC, Scott (Lynn) of Mankato, MN, Kent (Rhonda) of Lakeville, MN, Jeff (Sue) of Oelwein, IA, Vicki (Neal) Meirick of Pasadena, MD, and Tracy (Roxanne) of Winsted, MN; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; one sister Betty (Al) Manning of Colwell. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernard on September 29, 2006 and two brothers; Donald and Melvin Johnson of Alta Vista. Memorials: Memorials preferred to the Felder family. Cemetery: Burial will be at a later date. Visitation: There will be a time to greet Phyllis's family from 12:00 pm to the time of the service on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista. Service: A memorial mass will beheld at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at St. Bermard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista, IA with Father Ray Atwood and Father Tony Hesse saying mass.

  1. Grandma what can say she always had a smile on her face unless you were grandpa who smarted off then their wasnt a smile, but she had a good sense of humor. She loved to play cards and give you food till you thought you were going to blow. But the food was always really good so you didnt mind that much. But now she is in a better place now, even though she is going to be missed soo much!But as grandma once told me life is too short, so live it to the fullest. Which ill try to do from this day on. Love you always grandma!!

  2. Dear Winsted Felders, Nothing makes a friend feel more helpless than not being able to take this sadness away. Thank you for sharing the sweet photos in the on-line album. What precious memories from just a few weeks ago. Our hearts are sad as you mourn the loss of this special woman. I feel blessed by her in that she gave this world an amazing son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren whom I get to have as my friends. I enjoyed getting to know your mom over the last few years, and will enjoy the many memories she left with me. I hope that you too can enjoy in the memories she has left with you.   7. Tracy, Roxanne Leigha and Nicole and families -PhyllisTootie was awesome! She was our bus driver for a looong timewhen I first went to kindergarten and got to sit in the seat right behind her with Jeanne Eichenberger and Melissa Zubrod to memories of my Dad finally widening our driveway for the school bus to turn around ). She was SO excited that day 🙂 She was just a lovely lady that always new me. I am praying for you and your family and know she will be missed by a lot of people! We love you

  9. My deepest sympathy to the entire family. I remember Tootie picking me and my brother Chad up for school everyday with a smile. She was the only bus driver I knew that allowed water fights on the last day of school and would drive through snowdrifts to get us to school on time. Tootie was a wonderful person and I have many happy memories of her. She will be missed by many.

  11. Felder family, you all have my deepest sympathy. I am very saddened to hear of your mothers death. Our old neighborhood has lost almost all of our parents. You all are in my thoughts at this sad time. It doesnt matter how old or sick our parents are.it is still very hard to lose them. Take care.
