Phyllis Jones age 91 of New Hampton, IA died Friday, January 7, 2022, at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, New Hampton with Rev. Peter Faugstad presiding. Interment will be in Rudd, IA. Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are with Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton. Phyllis was born on Dec. 21, 1930, to Delbert David and Mabel (Merritt) Hayes in Elysian, Minnesota, and when she was 2 years old, her family that included two older brothers moved to Rudd. She went to school for 10 1/2 years in Nora Springs before her family moved to Rudd, where she graduated with the Rudd High School Class of 1948. Phyllis met Russell Jones while she lived in Rudd, and the two were married on Oct. 28, 1948. Their family grew with the birth of their two children — Steve and Jodie — who grew up with a mom who always put others before herself. They remember the trail rides the family took each weekend, the fishing they did together, and, of course, the homemade cinnamon rolls that Mom baked for them as an after-school snack. Phyllis worked at the Rudd Post Office for five years before the family moved to an acreage near Alta Vista, and the couple later lived in Radcliffe and Bentonville, Arkansas, before they divorced. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in New Hampton, the Radcliffe Farmers Elevator and when she moved back to Iowa from Arkansas, she worked as an aide at area nursing homes before retiring in December 1993. Phyllis was quiet and reserved, and she was one of those people who never liked to bother anybody. Yet, she also loved her children and her grandchildren with all of her heart, and she was there for them during both the good and tragic times. She enjoyed crafts, puzzles, sewing, and flowers, but her true passion was her family, and she will be dearly missed by all who loved her as much as she loved them. Phyllis is survived by her son, Steve Jones of Rudd; daughter, Jodie Anderson (Dan Gebel) of Cresco; two grandsons, Jason (Susan) Anderson of Dallas Center, and Gabe (Melissa) Leach of Rudd; six great-grandchildren, Kaylee Leach, Sydney Anderson, Audrey Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Logan Anderson, and Zoey Leach; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Joey Anderson; granddaughter, Trisha Anderson; daughter-in-law, Shauna Jones; and her two brothers, Georgie Julian and Earl Julian.
