Phyllis Carol Maupin, 82, of New Hampton, Iowa passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016 at home with her family by her side.
A Memorial Service for Phyllis will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in New Hampton with Reverend Candraeah Carey officiating. Burial will be held at New Hampton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton, IA and will continue at the church one hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mayo Clinic Oncology Department or St. Croix Hospice. Online condolences for Phyllis's family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com.
Born April 1, 1934 at home 5 miles outside of Rockford, Iowa, one of three children born to Vern and Verne (Carrott) Ewald. Her early days were spent helping on the farm, going to country school, roller skating, plays, dancing, and Rainbow Club then Eastern Star and Glee Club at Rockford High School where she graduated in 1952. She worked at Iowa Mutual Insurance Co after graduation and then took some business courses at the junior college in evening while working. On June 6, 1954 Phyllis married Kenneth Maupin, and they shared the rest of her days together. Their first home was a quonset hut in Cedar Falls while Kenny was finishing college. In 1956, they moved to New Hampton where they built their own home, raised their three children and lived for the next 60 years. Phyllis enjoyed being a homemaker for over 10 years and worked at PCA for a short time. In 1971, Phyllis went to work at Liddle's Super Value where she welcomed customers and worked as a bookkeeper for 30 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church for many years and worked on various committees and taught Sunday school. She belonged to UMW and was President. She also volunteered for the Hospital Auxiliary, active in the Loafer's Club working on projects for the community, and member of the New Hampton Country Club where she was secretary and treasurer for two years. She loved playing cards, especially bridge and so enjoyed her two clubs. Attending all the school functions of her three children was always important to her and such fun.
Phyllis loved to talk and visit. She conversed with everyone, everywhere and anywhere with a beautiful smile. She was a good listener and had a genuine and loving concern for others. She always had time and was curious and encouraging. She appreciated the simple things in life and didn't take anything for granted. Being with family and friends was her greatest joy. She loved birthdays and holidays and always remembered every special day with a card and phone call. She loved sending and receiving cards and saved them all. She loved playing games and doing puzzles with her grandchildren, golfing, and fishing, wintering in Texas. She was a caring and fun-loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, there whenever needed.
Phyllis maintained her upbeat, always optimistic attitude and concern for others to the very end of her life. She so appreciated every card, phone call, email, visit and food received during these last months.
Phyllis is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Kenneth; son, Duane (Cathy) of New Hope, MN; daughter, Diane Hartman Williams (Forrest) of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Roger (Robin) of Inver Grove Heights, MN; sister-in-laws, Larri Maupin of Shell Rock, IA and Margaret Maupin of Nora Springs, IA; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Beverly and brother, Gordon.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to friends, their church community and hospice for their support in her final days.

Our deepest sympathies to the Maupin Family. When we first moved to town, we bought the house next door to Ken and Phyllis. She was so welcoming and was such a friendly neighbor. I remember her at Liddles and her friendly greetings to all the customers. She will be missed.

Mrs. Maupin nor you hesitated to take me in when my family moved to Wisconsin in my senior year of high school. You two welcomed me in your home until I could finish up my senior year. I never forgot her making me feel so at home and her sweet kindness. Mrs Maupin always treated me as if I was one of her own back in the day and Ill always love her for that. 1956 was the year we came to know Phyllis and Ken; we also were in the school district. The words in the Tribune of her as ” good listener, optimistic, loving concern, curious, beautiful smile, help whenever needed, family greatest joy”, certainly are true to what we knew and remember about Phyllis in our three short years in New Hampton. We also have 62 years of marriage and three children. Our sincere sympathy is extended to the three generations of off-spring who will treasure the loving memories of their grandmother all their lives, because she devoted hers to them. Dear Kenney and Family, Soooo sorry to hear of Phylliss passing. I literally just found out about her passing and fell horrible. She has been in my life since I was tiny and was good friends with my real mom. I remember them having coffee get togethers in the neighborhood. Later, I remember her in all the different card clubs, etc. She was always so friendly and cheerful. She always had great stories to pass on as well. My heart goes out to you and your family.
