Norma Doris Biekert was born on October 4, 1930 on the family farm near Horton, Iowa, the daughter of Harden and Ruth (Zwanziger) Hansen. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1948, and briefly attended Iowa State Teachers College. Norma met Maynard Biekert at Howard and Jeannette Schluter's wedding. The couple were married December 31, 1949, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. To this union four children were born. The couple farmed for 56 years together just outside of Nashua. Norma was an integral part of the farming operation. She spent time working in the fields, milking 36 cows, raising chickens, ducks, and turkeys for the family to eat. Norma did what was necessary to take care of the farm and her family. Norma loved gardening and had large flower beds full of irises and roses. Also there was a large vegetable garden on the farm where she grew a variety of vegetables to feed the family. She enjoyed quilting, music, and crocheting baby blankets for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Norma enjoyed traveling with Maynard and would go on trips whenever it was possible. Norma valued her family, friends, and life on the farm. Norma is survived by her four children: Bruce (Nancy) Biekert of Nashua, IA, Cheryl (Denis) Schilling of Cedar Falls, IA, Beryl Biekert of Waverly, IA , Neal (Dianna) Biekert of Hooper, NE; seven grandchildren; Beau Biekert, Clint Biekert, Joshua Biekert, Travis Schilling, Zach Biekert, Nicole Kaiser, Miranda Biekert, and nine great-grandchildren.
