Naomi Hruska

Naomi Hruska age 93 of Decorah, IA, formerly of Lawler, IA, died Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Wellington Place Assisted Living in Decorah, IA.
Friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2019, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton.
A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
Naomi Hruska was born on January 12, 1926, in London, England, to Robert and Nancy (Stewart) Bicknell.
Naomi attended schools in the London area, and after graduating, she met U.S. Army Air Force soldier, Lawrence Hruska, and the couple married on Dec. 19, 1947, in South Hampton, England. To celebrate, the couple took a honeymoon to Switzerland. Lawrence then returned home to the farm and awaited Naomi’s arrival from England on the Queen Mary.
Naomi was a stay-at-home mother who provided a loving and caring home for her family. She also was a part of the 4-H program, advising and judging their projects. Naomi was also involved with the Lawler Legion Auxiliary and the Cowbells of Chickasaw Cattlemen's Association.
Naomi is survived by five sons, Michael Hruska of Charles City, IA, Jonathan (Cathy) Hruska of Oxford, IA, Paul (Barbara) Hruska of Mesa, AZ, Richard (Dianne) Hruska of New Hampton, IA, Lawrence A. (Pam) Hruska of Lawler, IA; three grandchildren, Brad (Bethany) Hruska, Jackie (Chad) Jacobsen, and Nick Hruska; five great-grandchildren, Maya, Nora and Ella Hruska, James and Henry Jacobsen; brother, Mark Bicknell; two sisters, Charlotte (Kit) Thornton, Lady Sara Newson - Smith; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence in 2010; grandson, Mark Hruska in 2015; brother, Andrew Bicknell and sister Ruth of New Zealand.

I remember Naomi with great fondness. She was an avid reader and participated in our library book discussions in New Hampton. I enjoyed our conversations and have missed her wisdom and humor.
Naomi had a heart of gold. She helped me with one of my 4-H projects and I enjoyed every minute with her. I remember she was a wiz at solving the rubik’s cube! Such a special lady!
You have our deepest sympathy. We enjoyed visiting her at Wellington place when we did the wine tasting there. She was a delight. Jack and Ann Herold

My sympathy to all of you- I thought Naomi was the classiest lady in the county. I don’t know if it was her accent or her cheery, positive disposition. I was once assigned to be her assistant in judging project entries at the 4-H Junior Achievement show and I felt so honored. She made a person feel so special in her presence.
