Myla Lorraine Timmer was born on October 14, 1927, in Nashua, Iowa, to Clarence and Doris (Johnston) Jensen, and lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to family, steady friendships, hard work, and a warm spirit that touched many.
Myla grew up in Nashua and graduated from Nashua High School. She carried the values of her hometown with her throughout her life, and those who knew her remembered her as a kind, dependable, and gracious woman. She had a quiet strength and a gentle presence that made others feel welcome and cared for. Her life was built on simple but lasting joys, and she found happiness in the people and places that were most familiar to her.
One of the most important chapters of her life began when she met Fred Timmer of Frederika at a dance. Their relationship grew in a thoughtful and steady way, and they formally began dating after he returned from service. During that time, they stayed closely connected by writing letters back and forth, a reflection of the care and commitment they shared from the beginning. Myla and Fred were married at First Congregational Church in Nashua on October 4, 1953, and together they built a life rooted in love, loyalty, and companionship.
Myla worked for 40 years with Salsbury Labs, where she was known for her dedication and long service. Her work ethic reflected the same steady character she brought to every part of her life. She was respected for her reliability and her willingness to do her part well, and her many years with the company spoke to her perseverance and commitment. Beyond her work, she enjoyed spending time at the river on occasion, crocheting, and spending many hours at the country club. These pastimes brought her comfort and enjoyment, and they were part of the rhythm of a life well lived.
Among her many memorable moments, one stood out with special delight. Myla was once drawn to spin the wheel for the Iowa Lottery in Des Moines. She wore a purple shirt that matched the color of the highest prize that could be won on the wheel spin. After driving to Des Moines and taking her turn, she landed on the purple spot and walked away from the Iowa Lottery with a check for $50,000. It was a moment she never forgot, and it became one of the stories that reflected both her good fortune and her joyful spirit.
Myla is survived by her brother Paul (Barb) Jensen of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Doris (Johnston) Jensen; husband Fred Timmer; and brothers Don (Garland) Jensen and Charles (Ada Jane) Jensen.
