Michael D. Kellogg was born August 17, 1951, in Charles City, IA, the son of Dale and Wilma (Martin) Kellogg. He received his education in the New Hampton Community School District where he graduated in 1970. On August 4, 1973, he married Brenda Halvorson at the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. To this union a daughter, Carrie and son, Casey were born. The couple initially lived in the New Hampton area and in 1981, moved to Spillville, IA, where they ran the Czech Inn until 1986. Following their time in Spillville, Mike and Brenda moved to Riverside, IA, where he worked for the Twin County Dairy in Kalona for over 20 years. In 2008, they moved to their current Nashua home where Mike drove truck for Rausch Brothers Trucking, retiring in 2011.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He liked hunting, fishing, gardening, and his horses and mules. For many years he raised German Shorthaired Pointers that he trained and shipped around the country. He especially enjoyed elk hunting trips to Colorado where the group hunted by mule. He loved riding and packing his mules and did a lot of camping and trailriding with them. Mike also loved the time he spent helping his brothers farm. More than all of his outdoor activities, he treasured the time with all his family, especially his granddaughters.
