Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. As many of you already know, Merv was the love of my life. He gave me incredible and happy memories over the past 2 1/2 years we have been together. We enjoyed our travels together. He turned a town girl into a rock picking, tractor driving, hay bailing farm girl.. I loved his friends and any time we spent socializing with them. So maybe time does heal the pain and loss I am feeling right now. That’s what they say anyway, but one thing that will never change for me, is that I am sure I will love him for the rest of my days. There was only one Merv, and I thank God our paths crossed!!! Anita Weiland

  2. Mervin, This is to you. I was four years old, starting kindergarden I somehow knew you from church, neighbors; I do not remember. I was very scared starting kindergarden and felt alone, because I didn’t know any one. There were the the girls who knew each other from their older siblings from 4-H and were together. You came up to me and took my hand and said, ‘ It’ll be okay.’ I have known you Mervin for fifty three years of our fifty seven. Even though I moved away from Protivin in 1974 our paths crossed. Reunions, The Mint, and more so at Baldy’s family farm, my home, which always I hope you felt at home. The coffee and smokes were great. I will always remember you Mervin, our class of thirteen at Holy Trinity and then having to transfer to Turkey Valley, class of 110. That was hard and scary, but we got through it and much, much more in our lives. May God keep you in the palm of his hand forever and ever. You will be missed. Look over us all and keep us in your prayers. Joanie Bouska Rohret

  7. My deepest sympathies to Merv’s family. Was so shocked to hear of the news. As a classmate of Merv’s , I always thought of him as being kind and very friendly. In adult life he carried on with his continued kindness and friendship to others. He always greeted you with a smile. We enjoyed visiting with each other when our paths would cross, usually at Czech Days but other places too. Loved his joking around. He had a great sense of humor. I will miss him and there will certainly be a void at our 40th class reunion next year. And yes Anita, there was only one Merv. May he rest in peace. Irene (Schmitt) Frantzen

  8. I am one of the lucky ones who knew him for years and made many wonderful memories!! I have way too many to talk about so I will share my last time with him. It was September 12th, Thursday night, we met at the casino. We shared great conversation over drinks and I told him that I brought my 20 dollar bill to donate and he said put that away. He laid a 50 down and told me to have fun. I never could over all the years win that battle. Well, the penny machines were calling my name. We had so much fun and I turned that 50 to 88.95…He wanted to play black jack and I never had before. We sat at a 5 dollar minimum table and I was nervous to lose 5 at a time. I really did not wanna do it. He laid out 200 buckaroos and then we each had 100s of chips. Our dealer Tom was so kind and patient and the other gamblers were giving advice as well. Two hours of learning taught me well and I turned that into 205. I was on cloud nine but I don’t know if it was me at all, beginners luck or Mervin’s great advice. I had been smoking a cigar and some big guy in a suit came over and said I needed to put it out. Well, I started smoking his cigarettes and realized why he always told me they tasted so good….hahahahha, I will never know anyone who enjoyed smoking those cigarettes like he did. I insisted he take the money and he would only take the 100 he gave me and told me the 50 was to treat myself to a nice meal. We enjoyed that night more than ever. We ate at the buffet and he was disappointed there was not prime rib available. Had I known that this was our last night together, I would have insisted on staying at the casino all night! I am extremely blessed to have been in his life and he in mine. He made me a better person and I could never have thanked him enuff for EVERYTHING he did for me and with me. He was truly the salt of the earth and no one will ever compare to the man I knew and loved. I miss him greatly but I am so thankful we had this one last night.

  9. Darren and Heather, Thinking of you as you go thru this difficult time. He will be with you in spirit and memories in your days ahead. Know that I have been keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed!

  10. I will always remember Mervin. He sat after me in school. In alphabetical order. Was quiet as a mouse. Sure going to miss him at the Fast Mart. Joan{Pavlovec}Lentz
