Merlin Carl 'Abba' Hoodjer, age 70 of Nashua died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. Officiating the service will be Pastor Jerry Thordsen from the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, Iowa. Music selections for the service will be 'How Great Thou Art' and 'The Old Rugged Cross'.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua, with Jesse Jepperson, Jason Jepperson, John Jepperson, Jim Johnson, Todd Doty and Russ Doty as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Leo Schultz, Charlie Jones, Louie Doty and Ralph Bell.
Friends may call beginning at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Merlin was born May 22, 1938, in Horton, IA, the son of Lester and Pearl (Rottink) Hoodjer. He went to school in Shellrock, IA, and Clarksville, IA. He made his home in Waterloo most of his life then moved to Nashua where he made his home with his life partner, Mary Jepperson. He enjoyed going to flee markets, casino’s, ‘wheeling and dealing’ as well as going to auctions and visiting with friends.
Survivors include his life partner, Mary Jepperson of Nashua, five sons, Michael, Leslie, Martin, Bobby and D.J.; two daughters, Michele and Lori; several grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his mother, Pearl Hoodjer Pace of Marshalltown, IA; three sisters, Lavonna Chapman of Brooklyn, IA, Norma (Ralph) Bell of Phoenix, AZ, Patricia (Richard) Klein of Grinnell, IA; two uncles, Carl “Cubby” (Gladys) Hoodjer and Chris Hoodjer, both of Clarksville, IA.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Donald Hoodjer.
